Ok bought a crx and the owner told me it needed a new igniter as he started it and the spark plug wires shorted out on the valve cover. Well I bought a new igniter and no spark. Bought a new distributor and no spark. So i tried a lot of different things(checked the main relay so dont say that) and finally just took it to a mechanic. Turns out the distributor I had bought had a bent rotor or something and they replaced it. Now I get spark. They said I only get it when the car is on and when you turn it over I get no spark. Not sure what that means but he said he had it running 3 times yesterday. Now hes checked the timing and its fine, checked the starter components and its fine. Now hes wondering if its ecu related or wiring. I really am worried about if this car is just done for or not. Any ideas what it could be? When I had it and it wouldnt start i could turn it on and the CEL would come on for a second then click off so i didnt have any codes. Not sure what could be wrong

 

Wow....has it been swapped or modded in any way? What model is it?

DPFI? MPFI? stock wiring and ecu?

 

Its a stock 89 DX.

 

Get the ignition switch tested or swapped....the switch itself, not where the key goes.

 

any other ideas?
