Default OVERHEATING OVERHEATING OVERHEATING!!!!! I'M SO TIRED OF THIS ****!

Ok fan replaced and still does'nt turn on. I have replaced the fan switch, thermostat and now the radiator fan. I have also swapped out a fan relay with a good one.

Sometimes the thermo needle will jump. I have already tried pulling the thermostat out and resetting it. For the most part it always works.

I'm pretty desperate because I'm suppoed to be leaving town tomorrow.

ANY HELP!?

PS. Its a D15b Vtec motor.

ECT sensor on the head? When you pulled the thermostat out did you "burp" the system? No white smoke from your exhaust right and you have confirmed that your connections on your harness are all good (no fraid wires/broken plugs)

ECT? Engine Coolant temperature? No I have'nt replaced that yet.

I'm going to swap that out today and then I'll check for bad connections. I really don't think thats what it is.

Burp the system too, take off the rad cap and let the engine run for about 10-15 mins. Watch the temp gauge so you know where you are at and when you should see the fan activate if it were to. Verify that the thermo is opening up and the coolant is moving. I cant really think of what else it could be other than bad connections and water pump. If your hg isnt blown then it has to be one of those.

If the fan isn't turning on.....one cause of that is a leaking headgasket. Turbo honda's see this a lot as they blow gaskets more frequently. But once a headgasket leaks into the water, it blows air in and causes the fan not to turn on.

Has the overflow bottle filled up or overflowed too? If you take the cap off the overflow bottle, is there a black residue on the inside? If so, you have a blown headgasket.

D series engines are notorious for blowing head gaskets at higher mileage.

Chocolate milk in the overflow tank? BHG... Also check out the ECT plug. It usually becomes brittle with old age and can become loose. Plus too its right under the dizzy and if that leaks oil, bad connections could cause the needle to jump.

When mine went out, the only signs I had were high temps when the car wasn't moving, radiator fan wouldn't turn on, overflow bottle filling up and overflowing on occasion, and black residue in the overflow bottle.

Ok I just switched out a working coolant temp switch. It still did'nt come on. I noticed while looking around that the fan switch that I bought does'nt allow the plug to actually click in place. It just slides with a pretty snug fit. I also noticed that when I unplugged the fan switch that I did'nt get any kind of ecu code.
I am now going to swap out the fan switch with my friends civic. I tried to do it earlier and burned the hell out of my hands.

Also my overflow tank is dry with some old looking coolant inside. I compared with my friends and they look exactly the same. My car does'nt throw smoke and the coolant is'nt milky in any way.

The last thing I can think of is that the fan switch i bought from discount auto parts was'nt the right size. So when the car cools down i'm going to swap it out with my friends.

I'll keep you updated.......

Do you guys really think my headgasket is blown? I swapped this motor in about a year ago. I bought it from HMotorsports. They said that the motor had between 35-45k miles on it.

I had the same problem. What I did was wire up a manual fan switch so I can turn it on whenever I please. If you want to just do that PM me and I'll tell you how to do it.

heres an easy fix for short term take a peice of wire and cross the 2 wires that come out of the fan switch you know the one on the thermostat the fan will turn on and stay on when you start the car and shut off when you turn the key off

just take out the thermostat and leave it out. just make sure you put the gasket back in and it will run colder than stock.

ya my motor runs so much better because it runs colder and the fan probably wont turn on because it wont ever get hot enough.

Um, keeping the thermostat out will give you some shitty gas mileage in the morning.

Yeah I'd like to fix it without taking the thermostat out.

Does anyone else really think its my headgasket.

Ok. I have now replaced the thermostat, fan switch, coolant temp switch, and the radiator fan.

I noticed that when it starts to get hot I can hear a noticable ticking noise, it does it every 3-4 seconds.

How can I check for sure if the headgasket is blown?

Its weird because right before my car started overheating it was working fine. But jsut out of nowhere it started overheating on my way to the gym. It has never gotten all the way to the top.

I felt both the lower and upper radiator hoses and they are both hot. Good circulation? means not the water pump?
