it can only tune fuel and fuel tuning will only do so much. real power is gained by tuning the ignition. Something you cant adjust directly with a VAFC.

If you are going to stick with bolt ons and have to keep the stock ecu, its fine but other than that its a complete waste of dyno time. A street tune will do anything a dyno could do. I mean setting the vtec crossover is not hard. Just put it at an rpm where you feel the engagement the least and bam, you have your optimal crossover point..in most cases; then all you need to tune the fuel is a wideband.

the other thing that sucks about them is that if you buy a VAFC brand new, ~275, then pay for tuning....another 125-150..you could have spent that money on a chipped p28, OBDII to OBDI conversion harness AND a tune which in that case would make more power and the car would operate better at all rpm and load ranges.

There is no problem with VAFC. It is okay to run it if you have bolt one. But if you run boost or high power application, look into others. People don't use it simply because when comparing it to other fuel management, VAFC just not as good. VAFC doesn't directly alter the fuel tables. It can't not fine tune the maps. It doesn't have ignition tables. Basically it doesn't have a lot of good options like others.

And for the most part you can get a crome chipped ECU cheaper then a vafc.

you would need a wideband and then learn how to tune

if you tune right of course it's gonna get power, the engine is using the mods you've done to a better effientcy then over the stock ECU.

If you tune wrong you are buying a new motor.

So I don't know can YOU tune yourself to gain power?

I will say this, If I can do it anyone can, my lude is my first properly tuned car I have owned(I say this because until you have a nicely tuned car you don't know) and it's very fun to drive around I love it
