I just bought a 1985 accord lx. 159k miles.
The problem is that when I start it, the car wil idle for a couple of seconds and then stutter and die. If I try and drive when this happens, it will die within driving it about two blocks. This will happen about half the time, the other half of the time when I start it, the car will run like a champ.

So far, I've replaced the air filter, both fuel filters and I've had a mechanic replace the fuel pump, same problem. After replacing the fuel filters, the car worked for a couple of days, but the problem obviously came back.
Anyone have any ideas?

 

if its like my 86 and its throwing an engine code get to the cpu and count how the light blinks in the back of the cpu box under the seat. this is a trouble code after that find out wich code it is bye the blinks. it will be a # of blinks that will lead u to a code named bye#. then u can get a diagnosis and start checkin the things the diagnoses will tell u, if i was u i would slap a set of plugs and wires on it. an 02 sensor, have someone do a fuel compression test to see if the fuel preasure regulator is bad. check the ecm see if something is wrong there, i have a 86 lx it does the same thing but very seldomly but it idles like *** and sometimes hesitates and i think the trannys slippen its got 155k on it i just pulled my code today and i gotta go through a series of tests wich 1 of should fail and tell me wats wrong wit my wiPP
