Default oil light

i got a new f22 jdm motor with 35000 miles. put about 10000 on it and now my oil light comes on only when it warms up and i idle and it goes way when i give it gas. and some times when i roll down the windows. i replaced the oil senser light and still does it. so its either my oil pump main bearing seal or my altenater. any ideas or hints

have you changed your oil in the duration of those last 10000 miles?

It sounds more like an electrical gremlin. Are any other lights/gauges acting up?

First, I would make sure that you have an excellent connection between the sensor and wire on the engine. Then check the light again.

Second, it might be worth it to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the engine to see exactly whats going on.

If you have a faulty ground between the dash and gauges, this could cause a problem. If it was me, i would check with a mechanical gauge to make double sure that it all works fine, then start cursing the wiring.

This sounds like wiring gremlin. i would inspect the battery ground wire to the chassis and the ground from the engine to the battery ground or chassis. You want to make sure that you are getting a good ground and that the battery ground wire is not corroded and has a solid connection.

Have you inspected the battery ground cable for corrosion/dirt on both its connections? One thing most people don't consider when installing a stereo is the ground. The power wire usually starts at the battery terminal and ends up at the amp. The amp ground is juts a wire grounded to the frame. What is not considered is if the battery has a good cable that grounds the negative post to the frame. A bad or going bad ground can cause small electrical anomalies, like your oil light problem. Most if not all of my cars usually get a new or up graded grounds wire from the battery post to the frame, and from the frame to the engine block. I have noticed a difference. Most likely you will notice that at night, when your lights are on and the A/C is on that your dash/headlights don't dim or don't dim as much. Thats because there is better electron flow through the new/upgraded battery wires.

D-OH! Why would you think its the alternator? Test the alternator output with a volt meter and see what you get. I really don't think its the alternator if the battery is charges and your car keeps starting.

Is the engine ground from the battery or frame to the engine clean and not corroded? If your engine is getting a poor ground then all the sensors could be acting funny.

The oil pressure sensor on the back of the block tends to go bad. This is a $10 dealer part and is easy to change. I think a new oil pressure sender will fix your problem. I had the same problem you describe with my '92 Accord LX.

On my 92 Accord the oil light would come on at idle, and it was the screen for the oil pump intake that was getting clogged up. Probably from all the Hondabond getting in there when I changed my pan gasket.

Man, that brings back memories. I used to drive a 78 Ford Cheatu (1/2 ton van) when I was working on my ride. One night, I was driving back from a party in the boonies with some friends and started hearing a clatter noise get louder and louder. Then I started hearing knocking getting louder and louder. Then it just died. WTF? I thought. It was a sign from the good lord because my *** was plastered. So we broke down in the boonies and eventually got a ride. There was so much sludge and flaky oil build up in the valve cover that it must have came loose during my "spirited driving". The oil pump screen was clogged with the junk and that motor died...along with those fond memories of the party wagon. Take off your hat, poor a 40 on the ground for your homies. RIP ******* Wagon 1978 - 2002

Oh man, that's bad. My car didn't die. The oil light was just coming on while at low rpm. I took the pan back off, and cleaned the screen, and never saw the light again.
