It sounds like you keep warping your rotors. Since you have turned the rotors so much, you might want to put a micrometer on them and be sure they are within spec. If they get to thin, they will warp easily.

Second, check for a bad caliper(s). If your caliper is not releasing fully, it will stay semi clamped on the disc overheating it and warping the rotor. jack the car up so both whees are off the ground. have someone hit the brakes then spin the wheel then they release (leave car in neutral). If the wheel doesn't spin easily or stops spinning quickly, replace the caliper(s).

Third, what kind of driver are you? If you break late into turns alot, then you will warp the rotors easily. This happened to my 95 accord when i did a few late braking manuvers during some "spirited" driving.

Drive 90% freeway. Brake very easily. Mechanic said my rotors are within .001. So the .001" might be setting something else to shake. He said calipers were not grabbing rotors. He said something else in the front end is the problem. I was hoping this was a common prob for 97 accord se.

Check the ball joints, control arm bushings, tie rod ends, and.....just check your front and rear suspension for loose/worn parts. Any one or all of those can make a front end shake when braking if they are bad. Are you sure it's the front? If you feel it in your feet it is up front, and if you feel it in your seat it is the rear.

Took to les shwab and sears. Both said they are baffled. All parts in good shape. The only thing they did not check was the inboard side of the rotors for trueness. Is it possible the inside pad is putting build up on the inside of the rotor. Both places just put indicator on the outside, and both ran true. I'm going to put indicator on inside of both rotors today and see if build up is on rotors. Has anyone heard of this happening? Just pad build up on the inside of rotors?

If it only shakes during braking then most likely it's the brake. Get new rotors if you have resurfaced it for many times and make sure the caliper works in balance.

OK. Had rotors turned again. This time I put new high quality pads on. Hopefully this will solve it. I will know in a week, 2 weeks. If it starts to shake again then I'm trading it in for a civic. 94-97 accords are nice but.?

Most of the time 'warped' rotors aren't physically warped. So you won't measure it with a dial indicator. It's non-uniform depositing of pad material onto the rotor, so the friction is non-uniform around the surface of the rotor. Sometimes it looks like the smooth posished surface of the rotor has an imprint of the pad. Or looks like non-uniform corrosion around that surface.

Worst thing would be to clamp down on hot brakes at a complete stop, but of course traffic demands you do just that.

Condition your new pads & resurfaced rotors like this...
Find some place/time where you can do this without being stupid in traffic.
Brake REAL HARD from maybe 50 to 10 mph. DO NOT STOP.
Drive around for 5 or 10 minutes while they cool off.
Do it again maybe 10 times.

It seems that after you do this with new stuff, it's much more tolerant of normal driving. I don't exactly understand why THAT happens.

I hate the design of the rotors on the 5th gen Accord too. There is no easy way to remove the rotors. Mine does shake. Resurfacing the rotors helped for a little while. I dont remember if I noticed it recently though or if it went away. I just drive very defensively now.

I Love my Accord because it is now just like a truck when I have a trailer attached. I can do everything I want with it. I like civics. I like the utility purpose of the hatch back on the Integra. I LOVE the smirk on my face driving a Prelude.

I am in the process of replacing all four calipers on my 1993 Accord SE and 1995 Accord V6. Both shake very, very, very bad. Make sure you check your rears though.

On my 1993 SE both rear calipers for whatever reason freeze up every 3 years or 45K miles, its like a game a play with the car, its pathetic. They have been replaced 2 time by me already and 3 times by the previous owner ( iahve all the records and its over 200K mostly highway miles) Every 6K miles (tire rotation) I clean and lube the keeps, sliders, etc exactly what Honda recommends at 7500 miles. Still something about the calipers/rotors/pads in the 1990-1997 Accord sucks. And go figure they are the biggest PITA when you need to replace the front rotors, Honda was smarter than we think when they desgined this. They knew exactly what they were doing. But ya gotta deal with it.

Thanks for the advice about how to condition new rotors and pads. I did what you said at lunch time today. I got a good 7-8 times of hard stops. Maybe by doing this it heat treats the rotor making it harder, so build up is less likely.? Anyway, I will let you guys know in a couple weeks if it worked.
