Default Can we make our stock exhuast more quit?

Honestly for a stock exhaust my car is pretty freakin loud. I have to pull out of an apartment building at 5am, sometimes I feel its a bit to loud.

Shift at an earlier rpm would reduce your exhaust sound.

Trust me I do, but until the car is fully warmed up it rattles the entire garage. What if i put on a lx or ex muffler?

get an aftermarket exhaust....... and use the silencer.

youll be getting more HP, plus the "quiet" exhaust you want.

otherwise, tuff titty.

you NEVER want to "downgrade" your car.........

If you're worried about you're neighbors, you could always trade it in for a hybrid. Then you'll be quiet and give them cleaner air.

I noticed that the SI has a louder resonance around 1300rpm than it does at higher or lower, it just gets this really deep vibration tone to it. Keep it over that. Most people aren't going to hear it like you would think.

Not true. Si sedan, stock exhaust.. When I go to pick people up, or come home from school/work, my friends are always waiting outside because they can hear me coming (and I don't exactly drive like a maniac in neighborhoods) and my wife usually hears me pulling in.

You can build a custom exhaust that is quiet and still makes power.

A straight through fart can muffler will be raspy and nasty. If you get a straight through oval muffler with some decent deadening materials (IE not a glasspack), it will be a lot quieter. Otherwise you can experiment with other chambered mufflers (like the RSX-S you mentioned).

After that, keep the cat. A cat helps quiet things down, actually. And between the cat and the muffler, somewhere along the pipeline, have a resonator put in. If you put one or two decently sized resonators (12-18"), it will really help keep the noise down. A lot of aftermarket exhausts cheap out on the resonator to save money or make an extra bit of power.

If you want to keep your stock exhaust, see if a muffler shop will put on a resonator for you.

The exhaust isn't that loud. And what that guy said about using a silencer is very wrong, you don't gain horsepower using a silencer the car gets immensely restricted.

I've been to apartments with my friends, and they can never even notice when I pull up. Just don't hit vtec when your pulling out

oh jeesus........ i never said you gain HP from using the silencer. i said get an aftermarket exhaust which gives you HP.........and simply use the silencer, whether it restrics or not. HP with a silencer is not my point at all. what so ever. the point was, the silencer will shut things the expletive up most definently.

Silencers do make things quiet, but a lot of the aftermarket exhausts that have available silencers will be much louder than the stock one he has, even with the silencer in. And silencer design is sometimes hit or miss depending ont he brand of the exhaust.

i heard the sedans had something different with the exhaust than the coupes, and it makes them a little bit louder.

Are you not the same person who was asking about Turbo's and Superchargers? Restricting your exhaust to quiet it down is a little counter to improving performance.

There might be something wrong with the exhaust (leak), since it's a new car. Try going to the dealer and starting up some of the other SI's on the lot, see if yours is any louder than those.

I have the EVO II and a header on my SI and it certainly does not rattle the garage in the morning when I start it up.

Your board name kinda contradicts what you want for your car. The more **** done to the car, the louder it could get. The exhaust is barely noticeable. I'm sure your neighbors barely even notice you.

I know what you're talking about. When I still had the stock exhaust, I'd occasionally set off car alarms in the parking garage where I lived at....Now that I have a Greddy EVO2, it's even louder lol

really? How can it be louder when they both has the same stuff? I have heard Si exhaust up close, doesn't sound all that loud unless you go into high rpm. Maybe you really need to check with the dealership if you got a sedan and a coupe and one is way louder than the other.
