I'm waiting for a new fan for my radiator. It does'nt turn on even after the fan switch and thermostat were replaced. I only drive it to work and back so it does'n overheat normally.
TOday was especially hot and by the time I got home it started acting up and was about to start overheating.
Its weird because the needle will go up and down a little bit. THe car will bog up and down. It almost wants to quit.

Does anyone know why the motor would bog like that?

 

Unplug the fanswitch(thermoswitch), take a paperclip and jump the connection on the harness to see if you here a click from the relay in your fuse box.

 

BUmp what would this imply?

 

This effectively closes the circuit for the fan to come on, and if this relay does not click, it may be defective (more likely) or the wires running to the fan switch have a break in them (could happen, but if the harness is untouched, would doubt that.)

If the relay clicks but the fan refuses to turn on, check the power and ground wires from the fan itself.

 

Ok fan replaced and still does'nt turn on. I have replaced the fan switch, thermostat and now the radiator fan.

Sometimes the thermo needle will jump. I have already tried pulling the thermostat out and resetting it. For the most part it always works.

I'm pretty desperate because I'm suppoed to be leaving town tomorrow.

ANY HELP!?

PS. Its a D15b Vtec motor.

 

THe fan switch is not tied into the thermostat or coolant sensor in any way, all it is is a relay with a control circuit (4 pin relay) which is closed by the thermoswitch, pulling the relay contacts for the high amp fan circuit, turning it on, check your wires, it has nothing to do with the PCM, this is why all engiens have a fan blade warning, because any time that thermoswitch closes, the fan WILL come on. Also explains why some peoples cars have a fan always on, and they have to disconnect the battery every time they leave the car.

The coolant also has to be hot enough, my car almost never gets hot, but if i let it idle for about 5 mins after a drive, it will kick on, it should not have to turn on with the car moving.
