Where to add weight for better handling?
I was wondering where I should put my sub box and amp rack in my ef hatch to increase handling? Should I put it right behind the front seats? Or in the very back near the taillights? All together everything will weigh about 125 pounds. Will it increase handling considerablly? Could it hurt handling? Will I even notice it? Thanks
As low as possible and centered as poosible. The spare tire space is definatle the best spot. I dont think you will notice to much difference in handleing though.
i had my spare and everything taken out of my rex and a special little set-up back there so its all flush with the cargo boxs in the center and unless you know its there you can't see it. Let alone even notice it in handleing.

I have a STD hatchback and I have a sub box with two 12s and a huge amp about the same weight as yours, in my trunk behind the seats. I put brackets to hold the box in place and the whole thing fills the trunk of my hatch, with just a little space on the sides. It may just be my imagination but it seems like my car slides a lot more when there's snow on the ground and I'm going up a hill. Maybe because the car's so light and it's front wheel drive with such low hp.
if you think of it this way, the more weight you put in the back, the less traction you'll have in the front.
kinda like if u were to use a crane and drop some heavy object on the back, the front wheels would most likely come off the ground
strange way to explain things, and i may not even be totally right, but thats just my $0.02

ahhh just remove the sub box altogether... you know you want the weight reduction
. I think I'll just buld it right behind the front seats. I'll make a fiberglass box when I get some money. That should cut out about 50 or 60 pounds. Anyway, thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it
I thought I read the CRX has abysmal weight distribution, like 63/37, and this only gets worse after a B series swap. Wouldn't improving the weight distribution help handling?

hmmm... adding weight to increase handling? subs?.... uhhh... yeah.... just don't put them in and corner weight and tune the suspension. Maybe you should go talk to the guys at F1 and convince them to put some subs in their cars. Maybe it's time for RealTime racing and Pierre Klienubing to bump like 10 15s in his ITR. Get my drift? Better handling comes from tuning not from adding weight... that's just a crazy idea. But yes... if you MUST add weight... put it low and REALLY LOW... drag it on the ground if you can.
You will only make the handling worse by adding weight, anywhere. You might make the car more balanced and it might feel like it handles better, but ultimately the g's that it will pull will be lower.
most of you are missing the point entirely.
he IS going to put the subs in his car, and wants to know the optimal place for them to be. Saying stuff like "don't put them in" doesn't help anybody..
You want to put the subs way in the back, and as low as you can. You would have to put your car on corner scales to be able to tell what side of the car to put them on. So center will do just fine.

Due to inertia, wouldnt more wheight in the back make the rear end slide out easier around a turn? Any Physics people out there?
So put the subs as close to the taillights and as low as possible
2 years of college physics now coming to work! yeah!
oh yeah...BEWARE though it will be harder for your car to start spinning, once it does start its harder to get it to stop! CAREFULL!

Thanks for the help 91 civ. So I guess it's goin by the taillights now. What you said makes sense. It seems like a very simple question at first, but than if you really think about it, it's not as clear cut as you first thought. That's why I tried to get help on this forum (obviouslly a big mistake). I'll be sure to make it as low as possible too. Later guys

, but seriously though, god I miss my JBL...
