Default Where to add weight for better handling?

I was wondering where I should put my sub box and amp rack in my ef hatch to increase handling? Should I put it right behind the front seats? Or in the very back near the taillights? All together everything will weigh about 125 pounds. Will it increase handling considerablly? Could it hurt handling? Will I even notice it? Thanks

As low as possible and centered as poosible. The spare tire space is definatle the best spot. I dont think you will notice to much difference in handleing though.

corner weight the car, then figure it out.

ahhh just remove the sub box altogether... you know you want the weight reduction

i had my spare and everything taken out of my rex and a special little set-up back there so its all flush with the cargo boxs in the center and unless you know its there you can't see it. Let alone even notice it in handleing.

I have a STD hatchback and I have a sub box with two 12s and a huge amp about the same weight as yours, in my trunk behind the seats. I put brackets to hold the box in place and the whole thing fills the trunk of my hatch, with just a little space on the sides. It may just be my imagination but it seems like my car slides a lot more when there's snow on the ground and I'm going up a hill. Maybe because the car's so light and it's front wheel drive with such low hp.

if you think of it this way, the more weight you put in the back, the less traction you'll have in the front.
kinda like if u were to use a crane and drop some heavy object on the back, the front wheels would most likely come off the ground

strange way to explain things, and i may not even be totally right, but thats just my $0.02

Due to inertia, wouldnt more wheight in the back make the rear end slide out easier around a turn? Any Physics people out there?

Yah, I haven't made a new box for it yet, and I was just wondering where the best place to put it so that I can design the box and amp rack accordinglly. I hate the idea of the extra weight too, but I've gotta have bass . I think I'll just buld it right behind the front seats. I'll make a fiberglass box when I get some money. That should cut out about 50 or 60 pounds. Anyway, thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it

I thought I read the CRX has abysmal weight distribution, like 63/37, and this only gets worse after a B series swap. Wouldn't improving the weight distribution help handling?

That's what I thought too, but now I don't know

hmmm... adding weight to increase handling? subs?.... uhhh... yeah.... just don't put them in and corner weight and tune the suspension. Maybe you should go talk to the guys at F1 and convince them to put some subs in their cars. Maybe it's time for RealTime racing and Pierre Klienubing to bump like 10 15s in his ITR. Get my drift? Better handling comes from tuning not from adding weight... that's just a crazy idea. But yes... if you MUST add weight... put it low and REALLY LOW... drag it on the ground if you can.

You will only make the handling worse by adding weight, anywhere. You might make the car more balanced and it might feel like it handles better, but ultimately the g's that it will pull will be lower.

most of you are missing the point entirely.

he IS going to put the subs in his car, and wants to know the optimal place for them to be. Saying stuff like "don't put them in" doesn't help anybody..

You want to put the subs way in the back, and as low as you can. You would have to put your car on corner scales to be able to tell what side of the car to put them on. So center will do just fine.

His questions included:
I was wondering where I should put my sub box and amp rack in my ef hatch to increase handling?
Will it increase handling considerablly? Could it hurt handling?
And, his topic was:
Where to add weight for better handling?
Based on these the dude's obviously under the impression that his actions can increase handling, and he wants to know exactly what these actions should be in order for his handling to be increased.

We are not missing the point entirely.

THANK YOU, I meant that I am GOING to put a sub in and was asking what is the best place for it to be. I just worded it a little different so more people would come into the post, and with the more veiws the thread got, hopefully the more help. When I asked what the best place was to add a sub to increase handling, I meant that I'm going to have to add the weight..... and I was asking where the best place to add the weight would be..... to give me the best handling possible with the extra weight. Sorry for any confusion that anyone had about that and I guess I should have worded it differentlly for the thickheaded. A few people took my words out of context and made irrelevant and or flaming remarks in an attempt to make them selves feel cool and like a big man over the internet. I didn't ask for ANYONES opinion on wether or not I should put a sub in or what you think about putting a sub in. I simply asked where the best place to put the weight would be to give me the best handling with the extra weight. PERIOD. So thanks a ton to everyone who helped, and everyone that didn't have any good natured flaming..... can EAT A MOTHERFUCKING DICK . Thanks again guys, have a great night

No the extra weight in the back shouldn't cause it to slide more. If anything it would make it slide less in the back becuase there is the extra weight above the rear wheels to create more friction with the ground. So if anything it would cause the FRONT to slide more quickly. Also, the moment of inertia would actually increase (harder to get it moving). So more weight at the extreems of the car (ie. very front or very rear) would make for less "spin." If you don't belive me...try holding a weght in each hand and put them up to your chest and spin arround once. Then hold the weights out away from your body on each side and try to spin. Its harder huh

So put the subs as close to the taillights and as low as possible

2 years of college physics now coming to work! yeah!

oh yeah...BEWARE though it will be harder for your car to start spinning, once it does start its harder to get it to stop! CAREFULL!

Thanks for the help 91 civ. So I guess it's goin by the taillights now. What you said makes sense. It seems like a very simple question at first, but than if you really think about it, it's not as clear cut as you first thought. That's why I tried to get help on this forum (obviouslly a big mistake). I'll be sure to make it as low as possible too. Later guys
