Is a 3rd Gen Worth Buying?
I got a lead on a 1990 2.0Si 5spd in incredible shape with apparently only 50K on it. I always liked these cars and I think it would be fun as a beater if nothing else, but I find very little info on 3rd gens even on Prelude specific forums. Will it be a pain in the *** even to find the usual IHE upgrades? I don't know what the car would cost me yet, but if the mileage is true (I saw the ODO through the window) and it runs alright, it might be worth it even if it stays stock. What do you guys think?
i don't know to what extent you are trying to modify but if only I/H/E im sure you should find those pieces. if it only has 50k miles on it find out from the owner why that is? It could be that the car sat for a really long time and did not run. My buddy had a bad experience like that but it was with a 88 rx-7. He bought it with like 35k on it but it had been sitting. Ran fine for 6 months and then the rotor seals went out probably from sitting and not running for a long time. good luck
I have an 88 2.0 Si and use it as my work beater at the moment. It was my first "real" car and I adore it. I bought a 5th gen to play with as well but still couldn't bring myself to sell the 3rd gen. Many people say it's because it's my first car but technically I drove three other cars before settling into the 3rd gen.
As far as mods go. I/H/E are definitely very easy to find and are relatively cheap. I even bought my pace setter header from a local shop and had it in the next day for $175ish. Check out http://www.preludepower.com there are A LOT of 3rd gen owners and a lot of helpful hints.
I'd recommend the car as a beater/daily driver any day, hands down. I love the styling, it's pretty good on gas and the seats are way more comfortable than my 5th gen seats.

I'd get it if I were you. 3rd gens are good cars if you ask me...I'd love to find a good deal on one. The only exception is if you want to really modify the stock B20/B21 it may cause you a bit of trouble and parts will be hard to find, but that's why they have H22 swap mounts.

ive got a friend that just picked up a 91 model but ist also has the 4WS is this anything worth messing with? the motor is bad im sure but with the 4WS i dont know if it is even worth anything to anyone. if anyone is interested in the car or anything let me kno.
and as far as the preludes go, i had a 94 and i currently own a 98 i loved them both. i also have to agree that the 3rd gen. seats are more comfortable than the 5th gen.

You can still get your basic IHE for the 3rd gens you said 2.0si which is the better of the 2 engines... but the 2.0si is OBD0 the SI b21a1 is OBD1 AZ race makes h22a motor mounts for this chassis i have the h22a in my car and its nice... mounts are great... however i also have a turbo b20a car which makes just over 350whp and 340wtq... so really you can do just about anything with them, only thing i can think of off the top of my head is lack of REAL nice suspension stuff.... great cars i love mine... visit preludepower.com 3rd gens dominate that site...TONS of info there....
