rebuild process .. crank is done but not sure what else
I just got my machine sleeved by justice racing engines (great guy) with darton sleeves and 10:1 compression CP pistons. I got this done because my car was burning oil immensely (like 5 qts in 700 miles). There was a gap between my pistons and walls so this was my only option. Along with this my oil pump went so it was a big problem. Now my concern is that Justice Racing was saying that my crank is done for, which I believe but he also mentioned a few other things. I was just hoping you guys could help me out because I imagine I need to get a few things.
"The main and rod journals were damage when the engine lost oil pressure. The bearings and crank journals made metal-to-metal contact which scarred the crank journals. The crank grinding machine can cut the journals to a smaller size, such as .25mm under standard, to renew the surfaces. Bearing manufacturers produce undersize bearing shells for this purpose."
Can anyone explain to me what I exactly need? I don't understand what he exactly means (sort of a noob I know).

sorry he also said this ...
"As I mentioned above, crank regrinding isn't cheap then add in the cost of balancing. At least good grinders aren't cheap. I've never had a stock crank reground unless we were building an offset stroker. Finding another crank is just easier/cheaper."
So I am guessing I just need a crank though?

yes, buying a new crank would be cheaper, more simple, and most likely more reliable. He is saying he could grind the journals to a smaller size and remove and scores on the surface and then you would have to use thicker bearings to achieve the proper bearing clearances. Just keep your eye out for a crank in the classifieds and ebay
post up in the want to buy section if you can't find one for sale.
I agree it would be cheaper to find a good used crank rather than have one reground.

You should be able to find a used good condition crank for under $200 on ebay/forums, then just get it micro-polished and you can still use standard sized bearings.
Goodluck.
Goodluck.

I just spoke to my mechanic, he was telling me I also need the bearings for Piston Rods (the ones where connecting rods are), can anyone tell me the actual name of this? I won't have a chance to get to the car until the weekend.
