rear quarter panel rust, shaping lines with bonda good job for beginner.
im wondering if it would be a good idea to save me some money and just have the shop weld the metal, and i grind/bondo it to shape like stock. im worried about the body lines on the quarter panel of my crx.
could this be done as a beginner working with bondo?
i've painted before, just not done real body work. and if possible any tips for doing it correctly, like sandpaper grit, etc.?
thanks

Put it on sand it off put it on sand it off.......until it looks acceptable.
Bare metal, lay the bondo. While it's still a little tacky block it with 40/80 grit. Once you have the desired shape, block it with 120, and lay another tight skim coat. When thats completely dry, block it with 120 than 180 to get rid of deap scratches. 320 than prime.

dont use bondo, or any bodyfiller really, but especially bondo. If anything use fiberglass filler. Its not the quarters that start rusting, its the frame in the wheelwell beneath the quarter skin that collects water ina pocket and starts the corrosion process from day 1. When i did my friends (atheist on here) eg hatch i cut all the rust out, then drilled holes in the frame part that makes a pocket that water gets trapped in, then i used a roloc wheel and cleaned it all up, then used weldable zinc primer on EVERYTHING in sight(just about) then i welded new square blanks in that i cut out of a fender and then welded it all together and used a little fiberglass filler and redrilled a whole in the new metal for the bumper to attach to. all in all it does not look 100% stock, but it was WAAAAAAAAAY cheaper than new quarter panels and I gaurantee that mothafcukin rust wont ever try and come back.
well i was just wondering if i could do that to save money, but i'll just have my friends dad who owns the body hsop shape them because i want it to look completely stock. he did my old 4gen prelude rust and made it look factory. i couldnt even tell.

Theres nothing wrong with using bondo or any other polyester filler. It needs to be used correctly. If the metal work is done well, you shouldnt need much filler. If there are no holes behind the filler(unwelded seams), "bondo" type fillers can last quite a while.
Fiberglass fillers are for heavy filling, not finish work. Some call it "quarter in a can"

it wiould only be a skim coat. i think i'll just have the pros do it. the shop i go to guarantees all their work for 4 years
get new metal welded in, I had it done to my CRX. It is way better to have the cancer cut out then to hope it is all gone from sanding I had a 89 with both sides just like that and had a local body shop weld in new metal. It looked great and everything was gone cause they cut it like 2 inches away from the rust.
thats what im doing, i was just seeing how hard it will be to smooth out the welds along where the patch panel attaches to the quarter panel. to make it look oem, i want to know how to do it correctly and be smooth if anyone can give me some advice
the more red you add to the bondo, the harder the bondo is. Harder to sand.
I shaped out ym rear quarter similar to yours, but wasnt 'as' bad. My first time and it was trial/error, easy to pick up trust me.
