I removed my cluster yesterday, and it was pretty simple. There will be 2 philips screws in the top of the plastic outside cover. Take those out and then it should pop off. I had to pull pretty hard but it comes off eventually.Once u got that piece off there shouyld be 3 screws also philips holding the plastic clear cover onto the gauges. These screws also hold the cluster in place. Once u have all the screws out , unplug and ur done. This was done on a 2000 gsr so i assume it is the same.

 

like he said. It is a very straight forward op. Just don't drop things behind the dash.
