Default Top speed issues.. What Could it be???

Ever since I have bought my car, the rate at which my car picks up speed after 85-90 mph Drops off dramatically. After I reach this rate of speed, it takes roughly 2-3x longer for my car to pick up any speed. And I am clueless on what would be bogging it down. (Note, the car has 180,000 and I have cleaned the fuel injectors) Not that it could do anything, But I wanted to start with the most simplest of things that may bogg it down.

Any ideas//Suggestions?

Wind resistance is exponentially stronger as speed increases.

True.. but I wouldn't think it would decrease my rate of speed as much as it is.

To be exact it's 85-90. Yes its above the speed limit, but I was using that as an example. I'm not looking for critisizm man, I need suggestions. No hard feelings.

On another note, when I buy I car I am going to make sure it works in ALL conditions, even if speeding is one of them. I want to make sure everything is in working order.

i would wager your car's accelleration should be expected to drop off at that level.

my guesses:

tires, tuneup, replace all fluids, etc

Touche. Got it for cheap though, so I can't complain. Mint condition too heh.

Also: The engine of the car appears to be in top shape for its mileage.. New radiator, belts, hoses, spark plugs//wires, gaskets.. But One thing that it has wrong with it is that it's leaking from the valve cover. I've heard many different things on how this may effect performance, if at all. Do you, or anyone happen to know the truth to the effects of a oil leak from a valve cover?

<-- 191k

Mine is fine, doing a full tune up can do quite a bit.

Oil Chance, Tranny fluid change, coolant flush, brake flush, etc

Agreed.

The one thing I'm not 100% sure on the new-ness//quality is the Plugs//wires. Now I know that can effect the performance, especially at such speeds.

I most certainly need to do some other things that you have listed, come to think of it.
