exhaust problem still wont go away..
I replaced my complete stock exhaust a while back with a new one I got from a friend(I inspected it before installing; no cracks/holes). thats including muffler and exhaust piping(did not replace headers). like before, I can still hear the "bwaaaaaaaaaa" at certain RPMS, but it is fairly quieter now. I can still hear the same exact tone as before, but it got quieter.
could it be something with the headers? they look kind of rusty. and it's not the heat shield rattling because the heat shield has no sign of rust whatsoever, and also it is very secure
note- this sound only occurs when car is in motion. when I rev it up in neutral, I don't hear it. at all.

The sound is natural of most honda motors at certain RPMs. Its just how they resonate, there is not a whole lot you can do. Although, both the CAT and resonator play a role in defining the sound of an exhaust. Lack of either will leave you with a raspy and high fart sound if you dont have a worthy axleback. One trick of the trade is to goto a muffler shop, and have a second resonator installed after your stock one , really deepens the tone, eliminates the high end farts and rips you get.
are you sure? I don't think my friends stock hatch, same year as mine, sounds like this. it's not at higher rpms which I know all hondas sound like, it starts around 2.5k.

Could be anything from loose components on the exhaust, to a blown-out CAT. Over time, catalytic converters wear down and can eventually 'blow-out' their insides, leaving you with a hollow chamber. I found this to be true when installing an exhaust on a friends hatch. We pulled out the cat to get everything bolted up on the floor, and to our amusment, the cat was hollow, lol, it had blown its insides out. Even if you have a stock exhaust, a hollowed out cat would cause a 'bwwaa' or buzzy type of noise at certain RPMs.

</TD></TR></TABLE>yeah I WANT to be quieter here..not louder. I can't stand it.
is it possible for a rusty header to be causing this?
and if I take my car to a muffler shop, about how much will it cost to get it fixed if it is the cat?

It depends on the cost of the cat. You can get a stock one for pretty cheap I'd imagine under $20 if you look around enough. Aftermarket high flow cats are around $50 or more. Labor shouldn't be much more than an hour so with a stock cat installed you'd probably be looking at anywhere from $30 to $60.. All depends on the labor costs and what you pay for a cat because I'm not sure they'd be able to bring the original cat back to life. Good luck with fixing the problem.
yeah, I read the 2 page list of exhaust leaks and still no answer. I guess I'll have to take it to a muffler shop to really figure out the problem. thanks though
all i have on mine is the muffler and just idleing its quiet almost stock can barely hear it.but as soon as you get on it its loud.i mean im suprised i dont get a ticket for it.now on my truck i wanted loud and ill i have is to headers and to straight pipes into glass packs and omg its insanely loud it depends on how its ran.put to resinators on it and a high flow stock cat and it wont be bad.
