well my cat is rusted out and my car is loud as hell. idk if i wanna do a test pipe or high flow cat. so far i cant find a cheap test pipe (btw im lookin to spend as little as possible) and i dont have anyone that can build me one. so any opinions? i have a dcsport header and full cat back as well. so theyre in good shape and id like to keep it close to the way the car sounded before. nice smooth not to loud tone.

if your car is loud as hell with the cat back then getting a test pipe would make it alot louder.

well its loud right now b/c of the rust hole in the current cat. that why im replacing it with something. mabye i didnt specify that. when the cat was good the car sounded nice and i want to get it back to that. i dont think i test pipe would make it too much worse but ive never ran one so thats what im tryin to find out.

 

get a high flow cat. the power difference between highflow cat and test pipe is something like one hp or less, literally.

 

well i wasnt lookin for hp really, just the cheapest/easiest fix. without being to loud. good info tho

high flow cat would be your best bet. they go for around the same price, and the HFC would be alot more quiet vs. the straight pipe.

there are a couple of good quality HFC's out there. don;t got for those ebay no name ones, thay are just as bad as a pipe.

Go with a cat. because the test pipe will deff. make the car louder.

 

all i can find is cats with a 2 inch inlet and outlet. but i have a dcsport header and cat-back. what size piping is the dcsport exaust and does anyone make a cat the same size with stock flanges?

my header and cat-back are 2 1/2 and i dont wanna restrict it with a 2 inch cat. so i wanna 2 1/2 but i cant find one.

 

Even 2" isn't restrictive enough for a 1.8L NA 4cyl, not to mention the fact the internal catylist grid is MUCH more restrictive than that tiny section that is necked down to 2". I've yet to find any lighly modified NA hondas where an extra 4whp before & after made me say "Oh **** son, this is mad-tYtE powerful!"

Loud or restrictive. Ricer or socially responsible individual...etc

 

apparntly you didnt read thro. im not looking for hp. im trying to fix a broken cat. but my point is if i have to replace it and spend money anyway why not upgrade to something better. i wont make a big differance but it would be a differance none the less. thats why im researching to see what my options are. i.e. the original post. i like things to work together rather than against each other. it only makes sense.

btw i have a 1.6 not a 1.8.

Those are the only three things that matter in that entire post.

If you're NA *and* have a 1.6L *and* its a DD, you'll be better off with a bit more backpressure than less. In your case, less backpressure won't help even high rpm - the stock intake wasn't designed to peak at 8200. Backpressure reduction helps when you've got a turbo on there or are far past the restriction point of an NA motor (and thats assuming the NA header is good). Otherwise the added backpressure will prevent less intake air from being sucked straight through due ot the overlap at high rpm, and not affect low rpm due to much less flow at that point.

But then again you're looking for gains for maximum flow, not for the entire system (as in all factors combined), so MY entire post is useless to you.

bought a magnaflow today cause i wasnt gettin help here in the last few posts. its only a 2 inch but i got tired of wating. and to sum eveything up its not goin to be a dd, it has an aem cai, the redline on a z6 with a stock p28 is 7200, and if youve never done an all motor i dont care what you opinion is.

and i dont have e-checks where i live so i wasnt too worried about smog. im lucky to not have is cause i wouldnt pass right now.

 

You are confusing as hell you dont want to go with a HFC because its to restrictive but your trying to replace a stock CAT??? Did you ever stop to think that that stock cat is a smaller diameter than 2" meaning its more restrictive than the HFC you are replacing it with??

 

apparently you dont read either. my stock cat is broken and needs replaced!!!!
