idle problem
i have a 1997 honda civic ex with stock computer. The car was an auto but just recently swaped the tranny out for a manual. The problem happens when i first start up the car it surges from around 1800 to 2100 and then it will go down slowly still surging as it warms up but after alot of warming up and i mean around 8-10 mins it finally gets better the only check engine light i have is a tranny control sensor witch is unpluged cause theres no spot on the tranny for it. In the manual tranny swap thread on here i know it says swap the manifold/throttle body for a manual one also a manual computer but i want to know what circuit i disrupted that it would make the car idle like this the only thing i did was swap the tranny?
Normally a problem with the idle like that after a auto to manual conversion is due to the iacv valve differences (3 vs 2 wire). However, if you are still using the auto ecu and auto harness, I would guess you may have mixed up the map sensor and iacv plugs, or possibly have a vaccuum leak. Was it only the transmission that was changed or was the engine or other parts also changed?
I think I remember when I first started mine up it had a bouncing idle for a while but after driving it, the idle was normal after that with the auto ecu, just as you said you will throw auto tranny codes and I think it goes into limp mode and wont hit vtec. Eventually you want to change the manifold and ecu, but it should idle fine with the auto ecu. Sorry its been a long time since I did my conversion, but I ran for around a month with the auto ecu and it idled fine while I researched the iacv problem.
oh also try resetting the ecu and then check the codes again, make sure its not throwing the iacv code.

yea the i keep hearing people telling me to just change the ecu and manifold but it did this before i touched it after the sawp though so i don't know if i put the plugs on wrong i didn't even know i could do that but i guese i will check that and just have to deal with the idle like this which sucks cause i don't know what to do.
thanks for the help but i decided to take it bac off today and i noticed that when i took it off the first time that on the end of the iacv there is two screws holding the shaft from spining and i guese there is 2 ways of putting it back on because when i put it back on this time it ran great from a cold start and when it was warmed up but all this becasue i messed up on putting the iacv back together thanks for the help im goin to try and put this bitch on the road tomarrow
