Default Top Mainshaft Bearing Play.....Normal?

I opened up my tranny and have noticed a decent amount of play in the top mainshaft bearing. I would say it moves about 0.25'' up and down but it is very tight side to side. I searched and found a few results describing the same thing but no answers about if this is normal. I would rather not replace it since it is $50 if it is in good shape.

I called gearspeed to ask if this was normal but the guy wasnt much help at all. When i asked if any play was normal he said that his definition would be different than mine and that he couldn't answer that question over the phone, which i understood. But then he continued to talk down to me. He acted as if he was the god of Honda transmissions (which he may be) and that i was too incompetent attempt to do transmission work myself (which is incorrect).

Anyways, back to the point. Is the play normal?

Thanks.

normal.........

angular thrust bearing, it relies on proper shimming and the thrust washer next to the input shaft bearing for proper preloading.
