Default 2005 CBR1000RR vs RC51

I was just curious why a 02 RC51 is worth the same or more than a 05 cbr1000. I have never ridden one but I am trying to sell my cbr and its they are only going for about the same price as bikes that are older than mine by the same company. The only problem the cbr has is the gearing was too long legged on te 04-05 .
Please some opinions on this.

That way the 1000rr is better in every conceivable way including price.

the cbr has more power more speed and more just about everything.

the reason the rc51 costs so damn much, is because its equipped with "zee pooossy magnet"

or the history of the RC51. CBR1000rr are a dime a dozen, RC51s are for connesuiers(SP). RC51s have cheaper insurance than a lot of bikes (if your insurance company doesn't base quotes off engine size) because alot less of them are involved in squidly accidents, and most of their owners are serious older riders. People know they can ask more for RC51s because there aren't very many around. They had a much smaller production than cbr1000s.

Actually it's 489 lbs, from 00-01, with stock exhaust. It's gorgeous. Prone to getting hot, not necessarily overheating, and sounds like sweet sweet sex, and you're jealous.

yeah i ******* love the sound of those vtwins, i have always loved tl1000r's and rc51's, and yes they will eat you in the twisites cuz the powerband and torque, vtwins are alot of fun, most people think of stereotypical vtwin motors like harleys that run super hot, dont rev, dont make much power, shake alot, need alot of care and have wear issues, need valve servicing alot, ect.

I would take an RC51 over a 1000RR anyday. Except for a REPSOL painted 1000RR...

Yeah, actually, that's heavier than a 'busa That thing must
change directions like a bicycle.
EDIT: Honda says it weighs 439lbs dry.

You are an idiot. Did you know that there are vtwin two strokes? And four strokes tend to make the sound you're talking about.

Still no real explannation. Lets do a rundown; RC51 heavier and doesnt handle as well, less power with no more torque ( compared dyno graphs ); so I gues the twisty thing and low end pull is out; and it has more reliability problems.
The only thing I think makes this bike worth more is maybe production numbers like was mentioned and for some unknown reason people think this thing is a torque monster, just geared low because motor puts out the same as the cbr1000 below 7500 and then the cbr just smokes it. The sound of this bike is not sweet to most; I went to watch twins race and they pretty much had the aggravating truck glasspack sound instead of the F1 style scream. As far as looks that all a matter of opinion and everybody has there own so I cant argue there but for old riders I am plenty qualified there and have ridden plenty of different bikes and must say the Honda is the smoothest bike I have ridden.
Please keep the opinions coming, so far I gather its a cult following and not a matter of performance.

439 dry but the 489 is the wet weight of an SP1, the SP2 weighs a bit less. The way the weight is allocated is more important than how heavy the bike is. The RC51 handles very well in my opinion, which is no expert opinion. It's not nearly as flickable as some smaller bikes, but it can hold a line really well and feels super stable.

Have you ridden one? Just curious... whether this is real opinion or just parroted internet bandwagon opions...

As far as the sound - I love the sound of a big sportbike twin engine (and it sounds even better on track), but some people dont like 'em. Thats fine, just a matter of preference

In my original post it states I have never ridden one but trying to figure out why it is more popular than its inline four brother. Its fact that the cbr1000rr is a lighter bike with more mass centralization so I bet you have been to the track and know the difference between a bike that weighs over 40lbs more and you feel it in swap backs and coming into a turn having to trail brake to the apex. I never said the bike is a pos just trying figure why its worth more than a newer cbr1000. Its all opinion and thats fact ; but what is the opinion that makes the RC51 worth more?
Again I must state the Honda cbr is the smoothest most forgiving bike in general , I have rode gsxrs and yamahas and both outbrake and turn in is better but arent as smooth and stable , I have done things with my cbr that on those other bikes would have put me to the groung but the Honda stability kept me upright to ride on.

The RC51 was definately one of the better handling bike I've ridden at speed. At low speeds a little clumsy but when the speeds and pace picked up it was very stable and had great brakes. I've never ridden a 1000RR though, so I cant compare the two. But the RC does handle well, and it doesnt have any issues being loose under heavy braking.

Supply and demand, I suppose.

Something's worth whatever someone will pay for it. Maybe its the 'homologation special' aspect, or that its just different than most sportbikes.... but T3h vtwin sportbike noises get teh hunniez fo' sh0.

I agree with the limited availabilty would be the best reason . As for the honeys liking the sound; more the vibration of a big twin. Wait this might beat out the limited factor.

I have an RC and it is very agile for its weight. It also has power when you want it. I have a buddy that has been riding them for years and he can manuever that thing like a 1000rr. It boils down to the rider and their experience.
