Default B18C1 Civic valve problem

was driving one day and started to get a bad ticking sound from the valves so when I got home decided to do a valve adjustment so pulled off the valve cover and found this...

not sure if this is a common problem or not and also found this in the first cylinder

any fixes or new head perhaps?

The first two pics of the head there is nothing wrong. All GSR heads look like that. I believe they crack out those two spots after casting to help wash out all the sand.

Every GSR head I have had looked like that so trust me it is normal.

The 3rd pic looks like the valve adjustment nut came off, you gotta find that bad boy, hopefully it just fell down into the oil pan, check head, if you don't find, check oil pan AND pickup (it might be stuck on the pickup screen)

Now the spark plug is bad, you definitely haven't replaced them recently.

The valve may have come in contact with the piston if there was too much lash....

I found the nut as soon as i pulled of the cover it was resting by the valve spring and thanks for clarifying on the cracked spots wasn't too sure and the plug just recently got the car a month ago so haven't really undergone any maintenance.

for the adjustment nut if I put it back on and adjust it would I run into the same problem? could the valve possibly be bent from coming in contact with the piston? thanks

please dont post anymore.

the first 2 pics are normal casting marks. since you found the nut, reinstal it and do an adjustment and see how she runs. the spark plugs need to be replace, when is the last time they were? also is that hair on the plug?

i would throw it back together and see if it fires cause it just might be the casting in the head i thought mine was to but i looked more and it was the casting

If your concerned about it coming loose, just use some "weak" grade locktite.

If someone did a hack job adjusting the valve, they could have over torqued them, and they backed off.

The plug looks like you are burning a bit of oil, are you putting additives in your fuel by any chance?
