What harness were you planning on using? You should just find an EX or Si harness. Just make sure that it is OBD2B and not A if you are getting an EX as you will run into problems under the dash if you try to use the A harness from an EX. That would be the easiest thing. Swap over your OBD2 parts onto the OBD1 motor and everything will plug in. Your dx harness "will" fit with some stretching and some simple adding of a few wires.

haha im doing the same swap... fun how they all tell you how to fix the iacv and vtec wiring but nobody tells you about the four or five other plugs that are either different, or moved, or just not usable... luckily if you have good problem solving skills and common sense, a lot of it is easy to figure out. theres a squarish plug on the y7 harness that attaches near the throttle body that i cant find a use for. the round plugs all work though, as does the speed sensor. as for the other sensor on the tranny, my plugs were different so i cut and spliced the one i needed. the injector clips as i understand are just a color match up(stripe to stripe solid to solid) im using the obd1 iacv plug(just leave out the orange wire when splicing the plug) im also just going to use the obd2 alternator to save time. as for the distributor wiring, i got lazy and ordered an adapter from rywire. well thats all i can think of at the moment since im pretty tired, but there might be more. good luck man it can get a bit tedious if youve never done it before

Yeah, that could be a problem for him.

Replacement Engines
Entire engines can be replacement parts. As with any other replacement part, the engine must be identical to the original. If the replacement block or engine is obtained without emissions equipment, all the equipment from the original engine must be installed on the replacement block.
If the engine is not identical to the original then it is not a replacement part, instead it is considered an engine change.
Engine changes are a modification that must meet certain requirements to be legal (please see "Engine Changes").

Japanese Replacement Engines
Used engines imported from Japan can be used as replacement engines as long as the engine being used has been identified as functionally identical to the original engine. Please refer to the engine importers catalogue to determine if a replacement engine is legal for installation in your vehicle.

Engine Changes
Engine changes are legal as long as the following requirements are met to ensure that the change does not increase pollution from the vehicle:

* The engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle.

* The engine must be from the same type of vehicle (passenger car, light-duty truck, heavy-duty truck, etc.) based on gross vehicle weight.

* If the vehicle is a California certified vehicle then the engine must also be a California certified engine.

* All emissions control equipment must remain on the installed engine.

After an engine change, vehicles must first be inspected by a state referee station. The vehicle will be inspected to ensure that all the equipment required is in place, and vehicle will be emissions tested subject to the specifications of the installed engine.</TD></TR></TABLE>
