Default hey there, new to the board, just wondering what your opinions are.

first off, i am a longtime euro car guy but having a 2 year old son, a wife, a new dog and a house being built i am afraid i must let my beloved audi go (and i also just sold my turbo saab to get a jeep cherokee). ahhh well, off to greener and more practical pastures.

which brings me here. at least to the all motor forum... knowing that i cant leave any car that i own un-modified and the prospect of building a jeep seems less than desirable. i have decided on either a civic hatch or an integra. they are both within my budget and seem to yield alot of bang for the buck.

i am very concerned about reliability after a build or swap though. this car needs to be my DD as my wife drives the jeep. and i dont want to spend every waking moment under the hood.

as far as the civic goes, i have found an EK with 67k on it for a decent price but has the D16 engine which would be in dire need of a b or even k-series swap. (i am looking for 180+ N/A hp.) i will invest the time and money into it, but will it get me to work/babysitters/house build site as reliably as a teg with a b series already under the hood (assuming i do the swap correctly and clean)?

OR... should i just go for a teg and build the the b-series that already resides under the hood? i really dont like the integra look as much as the EK civic but i'm willing to compromise looks for reliability.

i should also mention that i am very good friends with some senior members of this board who i will be enlisting the help of with any problems i would run into with a swap...

thanks in advance...

Moved to the Hybrid forum, due to the nature of the question asked.

Would it be reliable with the new engine? I would say yes, as long as the engine is relatively well-managed and in decent shape when going into the car.

well, if i do a swap the engine would be torn down, sent to a machine shop and built. so i know it will be in top notch shape. what i'm wondering about is getting the engine in the car, are there precise parts to complete a swap like this? or will i be cutting and welding? i cant afford to have the car out of commission for more than a few days. while i'm more than positive that i can complete the work in that amount of time, will i be backtracking for the next 5 months correcting problems?

b-series is a good simple platform for making NA power.

But H2B is the best option IMO.

wow, i'm glad you replied to this thread, bense. i've enjoyed your threads and insight the short time i've been here.

and correct me if i'm wrong but an h2b is an h-series engine mated to a b-series tranny? or am i wrong?

N/M clicked the link in your sig. unfortunately if i bought the EK that would involve a engine AND tranny swap? or am i missing something? like i said; reliability is key here... so if i were to do a h2b in an integra i'd be retaining the stock tranny?

Yes, if you bought an integra you would retain that tranny and just need to buy the h22 long block and the conversion kit, allowing you to mate the h-series motor with the b-series tranny. You need to try and find a Gsr Integra, due to the shorter gears which will be much more fun, as opposed to the extremely long Ls gears.
