Default Can I please get some help? Passenger side axle and half shaft.

Broke my passenger side axle I have noticed that i cannot remove the cylinder shaped part on the axle from the half shaft. It seems to be jammed. My questions are: How do I remove the remaining axle from the half shaft?

Thanks again.

To get it off, take a piece of wood and a hammer, and knock it off the half-shaft. I had to do this with my TSX half-shaft (considering it was too long).

Alex,

I have seen the problem you have before. The half shafts can become clamped to the axle making removal next to impossible. The ring inside can get bent, or misshapen and this may cause the two pieces to not separate. What I’ll suggest you do is remove the half shaft from the car, so you can get it out to work on it. You can try putting it in a vice, and prying it out but that make only break the half shaft. If you cannot get it out, you may end up buying a new half shaft and axle.

That's nice. I'm telling you that I had to use a hammer and a block of wood to remove the passenger side CV joint from the half-shaft, on my TSX engine. It didn't destroy the c-clip inside the splines, either.

I don't know what to tell you other than keep trying by method of pry or hammer. I had some problems with mine when I did my clutch last year but it came off eventually.

As far as I can see, looks like you dont have to worry about taking apart the front end so you should be able just to hammer or pry that thing off. I had a harder time prying it off compared to getting a hammer and hitting on the inside part of it. You can probably unbolt the half shaft from the block and remove it from the tranny so that you can pull the whole thing out an then from there remove it.

Ya dun say. You did this with the half shaft still in place? </TD></TR></TABLE>

Yes I did. It took maybe 3 good solid hits, and popped free.
