Default what are my options to make horsepower

hello all, i have a 98 civic coupe d16y8 automatic. i want to know all my options for making more horsepower and can the automatic be beefed up to handle it? i have to do things on the cheap because i have a disability and no income. i do have the ability however because i wrenched for 25 years but not on foreign mainly domestics. i did alot of frame and suspension work on foreign cars but not much engine work. i did rebuild a toyota celica engine back in the early 80's but kept it mainly stock. it was a 74 celica, big difference than todays engines. my brother bought me a b18a engine for my birthday but i have not done much resurch about that engine. dont know what i'll do with it. thanks in advance for any help.
ps: on my exhaust, i was told the glass pack would give the car a deap rumble, boy were they wrong...

bummer, the b18a deal fell thru so ill be working with the d16y8 only. So how dificut is it to do a custom turbo setup with the turbo mounted where the muffler would go?

i would say your options are research and.........well.......research. or you are not going to be makeing any power and spending alot of money on engines, because you will be blowing them up alot if you do not know what you are doing.

You're going to need to ditch that automatic transmission. Honda automatic transmission s are not made for any kind of activity outside of going to and from the grocery store. I would take that B18A you have, get a b-series hydro tranny/all the other necessary parts, and do the auto to manual swap, then boost that if you want real power.
