Default D15B2 block, Y8 head, Z6 intake manifold, and more.. HELP!

A buddy and I threw together a motor for an 89 4 door civic with extra engine parts we had laying around. Here is the parts list:

Distributor- d16z6
ECU- stock p28
Wiring-Rywire
Head- d16y8
Intake manifold- d16z6
Block- d15b2

Vtec works, car runs good for the first half hour and then starts to get doggy and overheats. We have gone through the entire coolant system and cannot figure out the problem. The car eventually started knocking after about 1 tank of gas was run through it. We have another block and want to do it again with new head gasket and studs but we are worried the same results will occur. The car was never redlined, I know those dual point D15 blocks cant handle much it seams, but I would have thought that it would run better than it did...

I didn't think you could get the correct ignition timing with a Z6 distributer on anything other than a Z6 head.

What OBD are you running? You could run OBD0 using a non OBD distributer on the Y8 head.

How did the cam timing work out for that matter?

I take that back, its actually a Y8 distributor converted to OBD1. We had to match up wires until everything was perfect, it throws no codes or anything...
