Default A little Expensive huh?

I just sent out for a quote on ImportBuilders.com CRV/VTEC crated motor. I was expecting the all motor one to be about $8000 and the turbo one to be about $10,000. Woah was i wrong. All motor $12500 and turbo $15000. That is a little out of my range. But what botters me that the parts dont seem to add up to more than maybe 7 or 8 grand at most, yet they charge a ton for the labor. I was planning on taking the easy way out by just buying the motor, but, looks like i better re-think my plans.

Labor includes tuning and making sure everything works. These days, you get what you pay for.

Labor is a huge part of the equation. In general, when something is built for someone else, the parts cost is doubled to come to a total charge.

In their own defense, how many hours do *you* think it would take to do the conversion and tuning? Let's say a month, maybe a bit high but not out of the question. One month is 160 working hours, at about $50/hr, which is $8000, right on the money for the turbo. The turbo is certainly more expensive because of all the additional tuning. For the all-motor, total time might be half that, which works out to $4000, again, that's about right.

Well... you *could* do it yourself. Do lots of reading (which you should do anyway). If someone handed you $8000, could you do the install and tuning? It all depends what facilities and friends you have access to. I'm building something in my garage, and while it's lots of work, I'd have it no other way (and couldn't afford to have anyone else do it anyway.) members.***.net/kimini22/car

Another way is to just have a stock street car, and spend that $12,000 on a real race car.

I get this occationally...and its a simple matter of people not having a clue how much fully built motors actually cost. And turbo kits.

You don't like Package 3? Look at Package 2...our highest HP one was like 216 WHP, and that one is around 9 grand.

You added it up and got 8 grand? For real? Well...the block alone is $3500, and the head alone is about $4000. Wait, thats just the longblock, you need an ECU, Hondata, SMSP headers, a $500 clutch, a flywheel, a Type-R tranny and some other goodies right? Wait, SMSP is $1100 shipped or so. Wait..Type-R tranny is $1200 HOOK UP PRICE. Wait...Hondata, with injectors and ECU is about 1200...

wait, thats 7500 for the longblock, 1100 for headers, 750 for clutch/flywheel, 1200 for management, and 1200 for tranny. Wait..you still need linkage, axles, radiator, guages, intake manifold, $400 throttle body and intake!

What are we up to? Like 12g's before labor and misc small parts?

You get the picture of the pacakge now? Maybe Package 2 if for you...its 200+ WHp and about 4 g's less.

Ya, i was being an idot. When i was thinking about it all i was really thinkin about were the block, head, cams, pistons, sleeves, rods, turbo, etc. all the normal things that i think of when i hear of a built engine. I never added in tranny, axles, lsd, ecu, and all the above and beyond stuff that you guys go through. Im sorry if what i said was mean towards your company. I didnt mean it that way. Its great that there are companies like you! And yes, i will be looking into your package 2, but first i need to find a job. Sorry again, and thank you for bringing some light to me!

Its no problem...and really, what I recommend to you is get the Package 4.

The Type-R killer. Thats the most popular package now because its under 6 grand shipped.

And its basically a fully built LS/VTEC will all new type-R internals.

So you get a new motor with 0 miles, and it destroyes stock type-R motors that cost similar and have 100k miles on them.

Thanks for the inquiry.
