slipping out of third>?
b16y8 is slipping out of third any ideas....i just changed the fluid. does it have anyhting to do with the fact that i dont have shift linkage bushings????
Your talking about a d16y8 right? I'm sure there is a post about this somewhere because it is a common problem, but here is an explanation. Factory bushings wont cause this problem. 9 out of 10 times it is the bearings in the trany. If you drive with your hand resting on the shifter, (a lot of people do this unconsciously) it puts to much force on the gear sets and burns out the bearings. Having a short throw can make this worse because it changes the shifter geometry a bit, however having a short throw alone will not cause this. Everyone thinks that this is caused by the short throw itself but this is not true. The slipping out of gear is a result of the gears not lining up properly because the bearing is alowing for a lot of play between the gear sets. The third gear is normally the first to go because of its location in the trany. You can buy new bearings and replace them for a small price. This should fix the problem completely unless there has been more extensive damage as a result of the bad bearing.
i used the honda mtf i got it fromt he dealer... third doesnt grind at all if i have the RPMs up then go into it but when its at idle speed and moving it has a huge problem.
