HELP sparkplug tube gasket install
push...
seriously, thats all you do. You could try to put a light coat of motor oil on the outside to help them go in or try tapping on them with something.
When you painted the valve cover you didn't get paint where those gaskets go did you? If so, that could be why you can't get them in, clean the paint away and then install the gaskets.
Also, it's a spark plug tube gasket

no i didnt get any paint in that area and i tried pushing as much as i could, right now im chilling the gaskets in the freezer in hopes that they may shrink just enough. otherwise im gonna try a little oil
Just curious if they came with an aftermarket gasket kit or if you got them from the dealer?
(My local dealer quoted me $4.21 per spark plug gasket and also called them spark plug rings)

My local dealer told me the 'rings' they don't come with the gasket. And they don't have a kit (according to parts dept).
Valve cover gasket -$13.00
Spark plug "rings" = $4.21 each
And trusting the aftermarket gasket kits based on the description and photo is difficult to tell if it actually is included.

I just looked in up on an online dealers site and they call them "spark plug tube seals". So whether you choose to call them gaskets, rings or seals it's all the same thing.

Besides honda oem, I found Felpro and Mr. Gasket kits for 20-40. Some claim to be thicker cork-and-rubber and non-stick. I could care less, I just want to make sure I get the seals when I order that's why I was just going to hope the dealer gave me the right parts. Can you pick up something decent at like napa or autozone?

#1 Head Cover Gasket Set 12030-PT0-000 $25.33 @ Majestic Honda

It'll probably be about $36 at your local Honda dealer though.
Also, the set includes 4 washers, 4 spark plug tube seals and the valve cover gasket.

Thanks. this does help a lot and I'll try to grab that specific part # at a local dealer. So I'm clear, in the photo on the left (non-vtec), # 5 is the gasket,, #7 is the tube seal(s), and #15 is the washers included? So the four bolts to remove the cover gasket are #14?
I just want to make sure i take off everything I should when removing so correct me where I am off or missing something else to remove or loosen.
Remove 4 bolts, spark plug wires and spark plugs and tap the cover to remove it if it is stuck?

pretty much...
-loosen and remove the four nuts.
-remove the spark plug wires (no need to remove the spark plugs themselves)
-remove the tube on the PCV valve
-remove the tube on the passenger side of the valve cover (can't think what it goes to)
-tap the valve cover and it should come free.
-replace the gaskets
-put some Hondabond (can be bought at the dealer) in the corners where the valve cover gasket goes over the camshaft
-tighten the four nuts to 7 lbs-ft
wait about 20 minutes or so to let the Hondabond set before starting the car.

Thanks man.
One last question, having issues with the possibility of the spark plug tube seals and spark plug O-rings being two separate things. Are the tube seals installed directly into the valve cover?
Are there o-rings on the '96 F22B2 like there are on the 92 lx F22A4,6 under the rocker arm assembly that could also be the source of oil on plugs?

ah
I wasn't thinking of that.
yes, the tube seals are installed directing into the valve cover.
yes, there is an o-ring at the bottom. See #19 in the diagram below...

#19 O-Ring (29.7X2.5) 91301-PT0-003 $2.34 @ Majestic Honda
and probably about $3.50 at your local dealer
Both the tube seal and the o-ring can leak oil onto the plugs so you will definitely want to make sure where the leak is coming from.
