im sorry if someone asked this question already but i need my own answer. i have projector headlights on my 00 civic, worst idea ever, and now i cant see **** at night. i was wondering if piaa extreme white plus or super plasma gtx bulbs would improve visibility at least a little bit. i know projectors arent the favorite around here so go easy on me . thanks in advance and sorry for the repeat.

 

lol no they will not increase output, they will HURT output.

PIAAs are tinted bulbs, any tinted bulbs will be harder to see when compared to stock bulbs.

 

^wrong. I have experience with this situation. PIAA's increaed vision for me in my old TYC projectors a few years ago...it depends on the projector itself though. Even gold won't make **** look good, ya know? Good luck.

 

It's all about light dynamics. Colored lights mix differently than, say, colored paints. When you mix a yellow light for example with blue light, you will get white. It's hard to explain, but since a burning filament usually puts out a slightly yellowish light, I would suggest looking into a bulb that has a very subtle blue tint to it, so you can get some good white light. Then you need to look into how intensley the light will shine, and you're set.

Oh, just asking for the sake of asking, have you aimed your headlights?

I'm just saying, I've got the TYC projectors, and they give out stupendous light compared to my 95 fluted reflectors, so I wonder if you either have some seriously inferior projectors or you haven't aimed them properly yet.

 

i have anzo usa projectors and no i didnt aim the headlights. how would you aim them anyway?

 

Well, if they're anything like mine, they ought to be screw-based adjusters. There will be two screws for each bulb, each kitty-cornered from one another; one will adjust how the projector points horizontally, and one will adjust how it points vertically. The same will go for the brights. If you've got a compact power screwdriver, this should be relatively easy for you. Otherwise it will just require a little more patience, but not that much more work.

In a dark area, like a parking garage, or at night, point your car directly at a vertical wall and park it about 25-35 feet away, and adjust your headlights until they are properly pointing straight. By then you should have the basic jest of aimed headlights.

In order to aim headlights properly and exactly, you should look it up on yahoo or something. There's DIY's for you there; very detailed, but I would suggest just getting a basic adjustment done first, because I believe you may have some seriously "outta wack" headlights. Good luck!

just one last question, can you use hids without retro fitting the lamps? and if you do is there any loss of performance or will you just blind people.

 

I would expect that the anzo USA projectors you have are not designed with the correct focal point for an HID bulb, but I don't know about TYC projectors. If they do work well to some degree, I'd think that the projector lens would blind people less, compared to reflector style lenses that are not designed for HID's.

 

PIAA's are awesome... increases lighting by alot. Just dont touch the bulbs are these guys will go poof!

Lol, that's a rule of thumb with any bulb, especially with any "performance" bulb. Good suggestion nonetheless.

 

lol thanks guys for all help. ill go with the piaa bulbs for now and see how they work.

 

piaa's are nice, my buddy has a set in white and they are really bright.

the only bulbs i'd pick up are the philips xtreme's...ask Eran about it he seems very satisfied.

I'd like you to read the lighting information link in my sig before you ever post about how your PIAA's dramatically improved visibility ..... ever here of interference?

 

it makes sense really, if you paint the glass it traps some of the light just like you said.
