Default Slyvania Silverstars own joo

I know this has been discussed before, but I want to suggest that everybody without HID consider getting these bulbs. I installed mine recently, and they really do create more visable light, unlike those blue bulbs that actually decrease light output. They look cystal white, without ANY blue tint to the headlights or the light pattern on the ground. I heard that they are good lights, but even I was surprised about how well they shine, make driving on the dark highway easier.
Sylvania Silverstars
found mine on sale at Autozone for $19 a bulb

Well, from what I have read, the PIAA bulbs "look" brighter when you look into the headlight, but they don't cast a effiecent beam pattern on the road and can decrease visibility, especially the plasma and super GT plasma PIAA's, those are more for "looks" and less for functional visibility. The Sylvania might not look has bright and blingin' when you look into the headlight, but they cast an excellent beam pattern, and effieciently light up the road

Well, from what I have read...
There you go.

Say what you want but the PIAAs are very bright and the visibility is very good.

I'm not saying they are better or worse than your Sylvanias - I'm not trying to compare them. I just stated that I like my PIAA bulbs since someone already mentioned them.

I'll probably give the Sylvanias a whirl if and when the PIAAs let go.

Ok. The "beam pattern" doesn't have anything to do with the bulbs. The housing(technical term is parabola), or the optics on the lens(if the lamp has this design)is what casts the pattern to which you're refering. The only way the bulb can affect the pattern, is if the filament is in a different place than intended(usually not the case).
I hope this sheds some light on the subject .

Ya, I said that I read that about the PIAA's, it was here on H-T, so that isn't my personal experience with PIAA's, so they might be great bulbs, I dunno for sure.

From what I understand PIAAS have a habit of burning out quickly too, and they cost $60-$80, so I just wanted to suggest a OEM bulb manufacturer that makes excellent bulbs that can be found for $19 a bulb

Give them a whirl, and I assure you will like them, they surprised me.

Actually, you are totally correct sir . The PIAA's do use a different filament winding then OEM bulbs, which also changes the position, in order to create thier "plasms" affect.

I bought some Sylvania bulbs and was quite happy with them until they both 'blew out' at the same time, one night, and left me with no low beams. I had to drive home for two hours on a highway with ppl flashing on me. So, until someone can convince me that their quality control has improved, don't buy these POS's IMHO...

I'll see if the PIAAs last and if they disappoint me I'll be sure to post up about them.

I paid like $55.00 for them, so yeah they were more than $38.00 for the Sylvanias.

Also I'm pretty sure the Sylivanias weren't out when I got my PIAAS back about a year ago.

Well **** now I guess I am comparing the two!

Well **** now I guess I am comparing the two!
Look, I'll come right out and say it - SYLVANIA H4 BULBS SUCK!!!

When I bought them, I looked real carefully at all the bulbs they had on the rack at the store. They were all made in Germany, but each bulb looked slightly different; different shades - slightly different color, et cetera. After picking through all the bulbs, I finally came up with two bulbs that looked pretty much the same. That should have been my first clue to go with something else. Then, like I said, they both 'blew out' on the same night; about 6 months later.

Just so there is NO confusion, I wouldn't install Sylvania H4's on my ride again if they gave them to me for free...

You know the "shitty" APC hiper white bulbs in my girl's hatch have lasted for like 2 years now!

They are too blue for my taste, but they do last a hella (pun intended) long time.

My PIAAs are almost a year old too now.

For as much as you guys are paying for bulbs, why not get real HID's?

I mean, you can get some kits for relatively cheap (compared to new HID sets, that is), and if you can work it right, you can almost get stock HID patterns.

Not trying to be a Dick at all BUT, What kinda HID kit can you get for $55.00 like the PIAA's that TOM has ? and he claims his Visability is good....
Used HID assemblies from OEM cars. MTK Kommander has some links:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=314387

http://home.earthlink.net/~pliepl/_wsn/page2.html

HID's for $120 total. Wonder how long THOSE will last.

I haven't experienced with slyvania's but have had two sets of PIAA's. The first set were the Plasma Blue and lasted about two years until one blew. Then I got some Extreme whites, which were real nice but one blew in about 6 months - I was pissed. I'm now sportin OEM bulbs but looking to get some new ones for both my fogs and headlights - unfortunately cannot afford the real deal (H.I.D.)! Any suggestions for a decent bulb at a decent price??

Read my whole post. Don't just quote part of it.
No bullshit. I work at an oem, and i'm although not an engineer, I work on some of these items of on our upcoming vehicles and with the people and suppliers that develop them. They would laugh pretty hard if they saw this.

I know nothing about the HIDs. What all is involved in getting HIDs. What is a good brand to go with? How much am I looking at? Whats the install like? Also anyone know how to wire the city lights in the SiR EG headlights?

And personal opinion, if I get a HID conversion do you guys think I should get a matching hyper white or blue city light to match it?
