Default ls-v w/turbo just finished and hella smoke.

I just finished a ls-v with a turbo and there is a ton of smoke coming out my downpipe and spits oil out downpipe also. Is it more likely that its coming from the turbo or the engine? Any ideas how I can fix it?

most lilkely the turbo...

Is it a new turbo, or used?
ball bearing or not?
using a restrictor?

someone mentioned to check plugs for oil and that that would tell me if its the turbo or engine. If its the turbo does that mean it needs rebuilt?

totally forgot that one. I'm assuming it's the same return line just because it seems hes used the setup before.

make sure its not kinked and that it has a downward flow, no uphill climbing.

a restrictor restricts the oil pressure and not blowing the seals on the turbo, too much pressure will blow out the seals. yes if there blown, turbo will need to be rebuilt. But u can check the plugs for any oil, u can do a compression test and leak down, make sure u didnt crack a ring land.

I pulled the turbo off and.....no smoke. I also checked my spark plugs and all were dry except cylinder 2. It smelled more like gas than anything on the plug. what would cause it to only by wet in cylinder 2?

just from my limited knowledge and learning experiences, is this a new motor/recently rebuilt? I had problems with a piston ring allowing oil past the pistons on #1 cylinder when i built my ls/v-t last year

also someone else can chime in, but if you had the wrong tune or basemap and too much fuel could wash out the cylinder wouldn't that let oil past the rings?

unless you run a turbo for a while with out a restrictor the seals should be be fine and the turbo will not need rebuilt as long as you get a restrictor in there

first hand experance here

the smell you are getting could be a leaking injector after you shut it..no biggie

if it is not smoking when you took the booster off it is your turbo...I woulent worry about what you found being wet. get a restrictor in there and see if it still smokes...if it does Rebuild turbo....

Where would I find a restrictor? Would I need to buy it from the manufacturer of the turbo?

A quick way to check if it's the turbo or motor is to do the following. You mention that there's oil in the downpipe, right? If so, take out the turbo manifold and see if the oil is coming from the exhaust ports. If there's no oil in the exhaust ports, that mean it's coming from the turbo.

I pulled the turbo and it did not smoke when I put n/a header on. There was oil/fuel in the exhause port of cylinder 2. Is this a potential problem?
-The head and block are used but both were in good working condition.

A lot of times valve seals go bad in the head and cause you to smoke realy bad also BUT if you pulled the turbo off and it isn't smoking anymore than it is the turbo most likely
