Default Traction bar questions

Hi there,

I'm currently in the process of designing my own traction bar system for my 4th gen prelude.

I'm wandering if using 4mm stainless steel plates to make the brackets would be strong enough? or would I need something a bit thicker?

Thanks

Not to be an ***, but if you aren't sure what size material to use, you shoudl ask yourself, can I properly design a well functioning traction-bar system? there are a few options for our 4th gen preludes available, just search the prelude forum

for the tabs that mount the heims it will be plenty, most people use 3.06mm/ 1/8"

I have asked myself and I feel I can do it. Just wanted some views on the material I could use that is all. Obviously I always overkill on the thickness. Also I'm in the uk so just getting 1 from the US is a pain. Making 1 would be easier.

Thanks for the reply

Well after a bit of research I think I'll got for 10mm mild steel just to be safe. Thanks for all the replies.

you must be talking about the plates that bolt to the body then huh? 10mm is way over kill for that. 5mm would be plenty.

That's what I thought. But I've got all the tools so I might as well make it indestructable!

why add all that weight? it's not going to help anything. Building stuff with a good margin of safety is great but that's just way overkill.

Get some 5mm and make a gusset to the tube for lateral strength. It would probably be more ridged than 10mm too if you build it right.
