I also use this as well as a bright LED wired into the MIL that is mounted on my pillar. Small and bright as hell. Not a fan of the big shift lights.

In my race car I use the SW big 5 inch tach with shift light b/c I am still a ricer. In my daily driver I use the SW shift light with built in tach.
i use my *** dyno to tell me when to shift
hell my SW tach is nearly 1000rpm off once the car gets over 9500rpm, its just like not having a tach at all lol

It's bright enough to be seen during the day. I would recommend mounting it so that the LEDs are pointing directly toward your eyes to maximize daytime visibility. The blue LEDs also have the brightest output, but I think they charge more for them. I have the red LEDs and I can see them fine during the day.

I also did custom shift lights in my car using leds. I used an autometter rpm activation box to trigger a set of leds that I mounting in the top of the cluster. I removed the light strip on top of the cluster and replaced with 3 amber leds for lighting up the needles. Then cut in 4 really bright leds that light the cluster completly green. They are even bright enough to see during the daytime. You can't see anything until they light up. I don't like when you can see everything in the car.
