New Civic...
So I just bought a civic... regular model... I know... oh well I couldn't afford 4k more... oh well... but I wanna start to get **** for it... my friends told me to get an Intake and springs and and exhaust... to start... I don't know much about cars and I figured this was a good way to start learning... I don't know what to get... any help?
My main input is careful on the intake. It's great if done right but if you dont take the time to make some form of box or protection, a cai is a lot more prone to sucking in water. My girlfriend's 97 has a 3" dropp and if she hits a puddle deeper than a few inches she pulls water. luckily she hasn't blown it yet.
Also dealer can choose to void warranty for cai's or at least I've heard so.

I have it as a daily driver... but I just love haulin ***... I wanted to get a truck but then I figured I could haul as much *** if I had gotten a truck... so I got a civic... I love it...
If you want to "haul ***" the Civic R18 was probably not the best match for that. Some trucks do haul *** though. Nitrous oxide or boost is probably the best way to get it from a gas saver to an *** hauler.
Ok so before you get flamed by making another post or thread, use the search function and read the forum rules. This will save YOU alot of headache. Search intakes and you will find at least 20 articles and which intakes are the best and will not throw a CEL. You will also find the same for exhausts and springs. I guarantee that if you don't read the rules and Search with the red search tab on the right side you will get flamed and no one likes that.
Congrats on your new car and just because some are A-holes doesn't mean everyone here is, and most importantly, Welcome

x2.
You could have gotten a much better performance platform financing the extra 4k instead of throwing money at what amounts to bigger piping on the 1.8, you'll net all of 5 horsepower.

Unless you happen to drive through a puddle. If they can prove the damage to your engine (hydrolocking, for example) was caused by the aftermarket part (the Moss Act), the warranty is voided.
Now, say, if one of your connecting rods breaks, and you have an intake, this is obviously not your intake's fault.

not obvious.. the guy I sold my old 91 civic motor to needed it to replace a block that shot two rods out the back of through the oil passages after sucking up water during a storm.. when we tore it down there was maybe 2 inches of rod attatched to the #1 and #3 pistons... the rest of those two rods were hanging from the crank aimed at the oil pan... I'm with you with Magnussen Moss act, but in some instances a broken rod can be blamed on an intake

And why would that be? Suspension first.

how much hardcore cornering are you going to be doing in a bone stock base model honda civic? none. so what is the point of doing suspension first? cuz it looks cool? they serve chopsticks with that at some restaurants.

God you've been a real ***** since the JDM driver decal debacle.
Good wheel/tire combo+ good shocks, springs, strut and sway bars change the entire dynamics of the car. There's no point bolting on an extra 5 whp if the damn thing can't stop, accelerate, or turn well. I don't buy suspension to look cool, if I did, my car would be about an inch off the ground and i'd have to carry 2x4's with me to get up driveways.
If I could do my car over again, I would have gotten stiffer springs, adjustable shocks, dropped it maybe 1.5 inches instead of 2, and gotten lighter wheels and stickier tires from the start instead of dicking around with stupid bolt ons. I've had more fun with a slow car that handled well then a slightly faster slow car.

Anyone have any dyno results for the R18? I'd like to know what I/H(or dp)/E will do on this motor. Someone above said net 5 hp.

Everyone has their own idea of what they want. If you simply want to haul *** stiffer springs isn't going to help a base model daily driven civic go faster. Not everybody feels the need to drop 2k on lighter wheels.
Intake isn't a bad first mod. It's easy, it's cheap, and "sounds cooler". Same could be said of a Catback.
Go fast parts can be used on the highway. Suspension upgrades don't do anything for daily driving, unless you drive like a total *****. I mean, you gotta beat on the car to drive it to the limits on the stock setup.

Instead of debating who has a bigger internet *****, maybe you guys could help the guy. Of course that may be too much.
I would vote for a suspension upgrade, even though your car isn't an Si, there is no reason for it not to handle like one. Besides it might benefit you if you should you need to avoid an accident.

I guess you haven't seen the benefits of suspension and a good wheel/tire combo.
A good set of lightweight wheels can be found for less than 150 a wheel, after awhile the price is ridiculous.
With my lightweight wheels, sticky rubber, and tighter suspension, I am able to take corners faster, accelerate (no wheelspin now, the car connects instantly) and my braking, especially on the freeway, is much shorter, due to the better adhesion from the tires.
These CAN be used in a daily driver and have great effects even in normal driving.
An exhaust first doesn't benefit much, an intake is mostly noise. Without tuning (R18 has no real tuning option like the Si KPRO) these mods can be pretty worthless. You will only see a few extra hp to the wheels with them. And most intakes and exhaust give you good power higher in the band- when will you see good top end gains? 70+ mph?
The Si makes it much easier to make power with bolt ons...if bolt ons was what would improve the car, an Si would be a good choice. But you can't polish a turd, especially a new one, so the base Civic would benefit from, and be much more enjoyable with suspension components.

Ok well I'm not trying to race it... I just want something that will increase my hp even a little bit and yea the "sounds cool" would be cool... I don't mind everybody talking down on me because I bought the wrong car... I love my car but I want to get somethings that will make me feel better... mentally... like I said, I'm not looking to race it or anything... but whatever... I appreciate the help for those of you who did help...
