Default Undercoating coming off.....

O.k. searched archives and found this thread.....

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=425704

anybody else having this problem... esp. those w/ 97-98....being that they are 10 yrs old....my wheel wells are white on the inside now, not black.... it looks shitty, and i want to help protect the car from corrosion and or rust...

anyways, i went to duplicolors website and they list a few different undercoatings....

http://duplicolor.com/products/undercoating.html

which one should i buy? which did you buy for those that have experienced this problem?....

Mine did the same thing. I just went to a parts house and bought the cheapest stuff i could find and sprayed it on. It seems to have lasted a while.

Get a pressure washer and clean the wells out thoroughly before spraying any **** on them.

On a side note Aussie R's dont have any of that undercoating on them.

Rhino Lining FTW. I can imagine slipping a wrench down there and getting a knuckle job from that stuff, ouch.

yeah, someone else mentioned this to me....

i wonder how inconvenient this would be to get done...

i.e. removing the wheels and taping everything up while at the place that does these coatings....

i would think that it would be more difficult to apply to the wheel wells of a car than a flat bottom or side of a pickup bed.....

Did you check to see if Honda had a part # for a can of this or something?

I personally wouldn't do anything as semi-permanent as Rhino-lining.

Rhino lining is pretty heavy, too. Nothing drastically affecting the balance, but definately not something I'd put on an R... unless you plan to do some off-roading.

I've re-sprayed the wheel wells on both my ITR and Civic. All I used was a cheap can of rubberized undercoating and put on two thick coats.

I used a different brand, but any of the ones listed will work fine. I'd stay away from the asphalt undercoating, but that's more of a personal preference than anything.

Power wash the wheel wells and get a scotchbrite and scuff up the surface. Then buy a can of 3m undercoating from a local autobody paint supply and spray away.

Exact same issue here. Like brickhead said, I also used 3M rubberized undercoating. Don't forget to mask off areas in case of overspray, good luck.

Finally got around to respraying the undercoating in the wheel wells.....It has been 100 degrees w/ 100% humidity for weeks.....

Very nice day at the beach today....

so...I pressure washed the remaining undercoating off.....cleaned the surface w/ brake cleaner..... and then sprayed on the undercoating......

before

after

I used the same stuff as you and worked great. what I also did to prevent any honda rot on the rear quarters is pull away rubber seal on wheel well edge and spray heavily on inner edge and re-installed rubber while wet. when it dried it kinda sealed the rubbers and the inner edge as one to prevent any dirt or sand build up.
