Default single layer head gaskett for b20v???

ok i want to do a single layer hg on my b20 vtec to raise compression but can you buy a single layer or can you seperate a mls gaskett...any one with experiance in this info would be awsome i need to get my gaskett this week..

There arent many companys still making single layer head gaskets..If u did find one i wouldnt suggest u use it without claying the motor for p2v clearance!! Why dont u go with say a mugen 2 layer gasket??

well im not worried about claying the motor its a stock b20z and the comp is only going to 10.4 so i dont think there is any danger in piston valve clearance just wanted to raise it a little more..oh and im not paying that much for a hg....

most b20 pistons if not all smaller than vtec's valve reliefs as in... they use a small diameter valve... u will not hit the piston flat on but at n angle that may bend valves. Seen it one too many times happen with milled heads...

so do you suggest just using the mls gaskett im going to spraying the motor also but i wanted a little more compression so it would have a little more pep off the spray...and and im running skunk stg3 cams in this motor do you think clearence would be a prob???

from what i have read you need aftermarket pistons to run bigger cams then say b16 or gsr cams. so... i would say yes there will be a big problem with valves hitting the pistons...

try bolting the head on witht hte cams and spining it with the t-belt on i bet they will hit....

are shitten me man there a plenty of people running these cams with a stock b20vtec and there making damn good power also soo yeah search or know before you speak

Their not doing it with stock b20 pistons. If YOU would search for 5 seconds you'd realize that.

But your going to do what you want so, don't listen to anyone, throw some huge cams in there and see what happens.

What I don't understand is this incessant need to raise compression for less than 1 point.

Damn, when will people learn it is not compression that allows people to use big cams but how much capacity the motor has to flow.

In other words, 12:1 is not going to better than 11:1. It may yield 2 or 3 hp more.

I have herd of it being done before. Although I honestly wouldn't try it myself. With the head off it should be easy to check clearances and report back.

Best is to try checking it with NO gasket and then you will know you will have a small margin of safety.

Time to go to wal-mart for some silly putty and get checking. Let us know how you make out.

B20 pistons, dont allow for much error, when it comes to valve relief, the cuts in them are shallow and like everyone has said, allows for small margin, skunk2 stage 3's the original's aren't as aggressive as you may think, in a recent test done by IB, the regular stage 2's out performed toda D's and s2s3's.. these cams are fine to run on your b20vtec, however, you will not see the full potential of them until your CR is at least 11.1 or higher.. my suggestion is this, mill your head around .020~.025 using a stock 3 layer HG, with some flat face valves.. this shoudl put you close to 11.0CR if not a tad bit higher depending on what head you use..clay your motor..check your clearence's reguardless of what you think you know..its always good to make sure..every motor is different.

Very true, compression doesn't define a use of a specific cam, but how much of the cam is taken advantage of.. Stock gsr's(usdm) with bolt ons i've seen make some good power with the s2 pro 2's.. however they aren't able to rev as high as they need too..etc etc..any cam is good for this setup, my suggestion would be a rocket, skunk2, or brian crower who's been coming up as of late..even the Buddy clubs are good cams..its all in where you want your power.

thanks for the info i will deff concider that and i may get the head milled why its at the shop
