Default just been scammed...HELPLESS

ok guys so today i take my car to get inspected after gettin a $50 ticket overnight for expired inspections stickers!

the mechanic takes my car for a ride around the block(never happened to me before)
he gets back and starts the inspection.

i run back to the garage (becuase they were taking kind of long) and noticed him and his buddy were smiling and pointing at my right front tire!

i wait another 15 minutes and they finally call me towards my car and tell me that the axle is no good and they would be happy to replace it for me!

it looks like the cv boot was sliced becuase the grease around the wheel was fresh( no dust, and it was not caked on)!!!

I KNOW I GOT SCAMMED! BUT CAN I JUST FIX THE CV BOOT? OR GET THE WHOLE AXLE SWITCHED!!!!!
this is the part i know the "MECHANIC SLICED"

what the hell is an inspection? I dont think we have those in illinois.

at least I never have any stickers besides the city sticker on the windshield, and the plate sticker, which has no inspection, you just pay the greedy bastards and they mail it to you.

do the entire axle. doing the boot alone is okay but its a messy job. swapping the axle out and popping in the new one is a lot easier.

Might as well replace both axles....who knows how well the previous owner had maintained the vehicle.

Just go to your local Les Schwab and have them replaced at low prices, if you don't have the time/ know how to do it.

Good luckl

Replace both axles pretty easy if you can crack off the axle nut and not break all the heads on your 1/2" drive ratchets, and T handles

First off, yes, you can replace just the boot. There are special stretchable boots that you can buy so that you dont have to take the axel apart, they just stretch over and clamp on, otherwise you need to take the axel apart, install the boot, then put the axel back together.

Second, you should always ask someone before you take their pictures, save them in your photobucket and post them back up. You could of simply IM'd me, I was online at the time.

I twisted the 1/2" drive part off 2 Craftsman ratchets and 1 Craftsman breaker bar once trying to loosen the axle nut on the driver side of my 95 EX. Someone must have really cranked it on there before, since then I never had any problems with it.

they can be a prolem nut to get off, I broke an autozone breaker bar in half trying to get one off my 97. then used my standered 1/2" craftsman wratchet with a 3' cheater bar and it worked fine. any who you can also get a split boot, that just wrapes around after removeing the old boot. I don't suggest those though. if it is a clean cut, and you have never heard a clicking while turning, then replace the boot, and grease asap. otherwise replace the axle.

i say just replace the boot but if the car is making noise when you turn the wheel then you got to replace the axle and boot together.

Boot MUST be replaced before sand makes into the bearings... and starts to grind them!
