Emergency!!! - Car won't stay on
95 Accord, F22B1, CD5 4 Door
This afternoon, when I was getting in the car, my thigh hit the steering in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the vehicle due to which it got jammed up. I was still able to turn the key and start the car. But the car won't stay on for more than 1-2 seconds. The steering was very hard to rotate. I pulled the car in nuetral. Since it was parked on slop, it started to roll back. I tried to start it again and after three attempts, it started. I was afraid to drive, So I took a test drive in the parking lot itself. Didn't had any problems, but the steering seemed to be little easy to rotate. I drove it to work and came back (almost 30 mile) but had some wierd problems.
1. The indicators (speedometer and odometer) bounced up and down two to three times during my way back to home.
2. Steering wheel seemed to be too easy to rotate..
After half hour, I went to the grocery store, but I was not able to make it.
The car broke as soon as I took it off the parking lot.
It starts but won't stay on for more than 1 - 2 second.
The shifter got locked up in park position.
Please help ........

that sounds like a mess.
the shifter should have a slot next to it that will allow you to put your key into it, and "unlock it" from park.
as for the steering issue? im not too sure of.
and for the car not to run for, but a few seconds could be a slew of issues. Start with the basics once you get it home. Check for fuel, check for spark, and check for compression.
i guess i'm still not clear on the events leading up to the issue. Perhaps you can try to re-word that.

Let me describe the situation on short words.
The abnormal behavior of the car is due to the lateral hit on the steering, for sure.
The shifter got locked up because of this issue only.
The gas tank is full and I get the spark too.
It is something related to steering and parts associated to it.

My guess would be that the ignition switch where you put in the key may have gotten damaged, or the areas where the ignition switch mounts to, got damaged. Even though you have the key in there to 'on', it may not be staying there and sometimes going off. If it's in the off position and didn't start yet, the shifter would stay in the park position.
Additionally, other parts in the steering column may have gotten damaged too.

It must have been a brutally hard hit (in excess of 100lb/ft) if it shattered the steering...I've never seen a human thigh hit with that much force on a round object, ESPECIALLY on an accidental hit like what you are describing. Without power steering, that hit should not have done much...You would have had to literally grab the steering wheel and give it a good, hard yank to even get those kind of results, but even then, at most, you probably would have only been able to get the steering wheel to turn about 1.5 turns without power steering. Probably less since you were on a slope.

try giggling the key next time it won't start. I bet you broke the ignition chamber, its not really that uncommon, it happened to me. If you are able to move the key around and keep the car on then you know its bad.
As for the steering, its probably still having to do with the ignition. It locks when theres no key in there, and when it breaks, theres no key to keep it from locking.

You were correct. The car was diagonised for bad ignition switch.
The steering also got jammed up becasue of bad ignition seitch.
I got it replaced and the car was running ok for 2 day.
But yesterday, I had same problem again.
Can a bad fuse cause this problem?
Please help
