Default My poor car!!!

I had a fire at my apartment and the whole building was destroyed...I lost everthing, my wallet, all my clothes, everything, even my CAR.

The fire was so bad that the flames cought the car next to mine and blew the gas tank which cought my car on fire. It's totaled and the insurance will cover it but i have to wait a while

I sincerely hope you had renters insurance! I advocate renters insurance to anyone who rents The cost is so small but covers so much. Hope things work out for you buddy!

The lady that lived on the first floor was lighting a cigarette on her stove at 2:40 in the morning...only she had clothes piled on the stove and she either dropped the cigarette or the burner ignited the clothes on the stove.

AND get this the weekend before the fire marshal did an inspection of the room and determined that it was unsafe to live in because of the clothes on the stove and the piles of clothes and trash in the house...but instead of red flagging the house and kicking her out he gave her two weeks to clean it up.

Now because he didn't kick her out the house is burned down because of the hazards that he noted AND the tenant on the second floor died in the fire.

I'm planning on suing the fire department...and yes I've already had the ethical debate of that their public servants and the were saving the house but they didn't do anything. The whole house burned down, every car that was parked out front was destroyed and nothing was saved, so basically they didn't do anything and I'm left out on the street with nothing...not even my wallet.

Let me know what you guys think

When something is deemed a fire hazard the FD has to give a certain amount of time to let the resident resolve the problem/issue.

The FD probably figured that the clothes on the stove were a hazard and that the resident would move those right away seeing as that is not hard to do.

Im also unsure if you were saying that the FD didnt do anything while the house was burning down...?

Was the fire that bad that they deemed it a total loss etc and unsafe to fight it?

Either way im sorry about your loss.

If you need some t shirts and crap I have some old stuff, if you have an addy I can send it to.

when you sue someone it should serve a purpose. the FD really fucked up. A stove is an item which should be used everyday in a normal household. I could see if it was something that needed to be repaired to wait a couple weeks. But this was an immediate fire hazard, and we all see the results. I would want the Fire Marshall's job before anything else. That guy is a dumbshit for not doing something then.

The lady had clothes piled on top of the stove. The FD told her to take them down. What do you want them to do?? Evict her because she had them there??? They told her to take them down, thats all they can do until they come in for the 2nd inspection to make sure it was done.

Im definitely not trying to downplay that. Its a great tragedy. If anything you sue the lady, NOT the FD. They went right by protocol for the situation.

Go for the Apartment Co's insurance company. You may have better luck and not come out looking like an ***. Terrible tragedy. I posted my first post before reading of the death, .. Take care man.

Obviously you aren't 'on the streets' if you have time to come on here and post, let alone have a computer to post from.

Sorry for your loss, but the second I read that you're trying to sue the FD totally took away any sympathy I had for you. It's sad that this is the way America has become, looking for any chance to sue anyone possible. I suppose next you'll break into someone's house and then sue them because the glass window cut you?
