New project car - h22 swapped '89 *pics* - how do I pull cel code?
First, here's a few pics of the car!

Now, It's running an obd1 conversion harness and p13 ECU. Once the car warms up the CEL comes on. I was told by the previous owner that it's the knock sensor. When I turn the car off the CEL goes away. How do I check the code? I also think that VTEC isn't engaging because of it - I used to own a 2000 Prelude and the VTEC crossover was very pronounced - you could really hear and feel it. This car I can't hear or feel any difference. Still pulls really good though.
Any ideas, oh Honda gurus

Ok, read through some old threads and managed to check the codes. It's throwing 3 different ones:
1 O2A - Oxygen sensor #1
12 EGR - exhaust gas recirculation lift valve
23 Knock sensor
Would any of these prevent VTEC from engaging?

that shouldnt be your question, your question should be why are you getting those codes, try to fix those first then see if vtec comes back.

I know the EGR isn't hooked up so that one's self explanatory...

More then likely your Vtec is even actuating (not working) thus no puttin in the seat. O2 sensor is a primary sensor so get that fixed 4 wire obd1 O2 sensor is needed. That should cause the system to go into safe mode 6500 cut off and no vtec. With use of the p13 ecu you will need to have the VSS/Speedo cable working properly if not Vtec wont work, p13 looks for the VSS/Speedo cable for Vtec to work. D series speedo unit 88-91 is used with the H22/H23 trans, slides right in, just need to make a longer clip out of sheet metal. EGR will take a lil work to wire that up correctly. EGR will throw a soft code, which means it wont affect anything like Vtec etc.
- I personally didn't know about the Vtec not actuating without the VSS/Speedo Cable work properly about 2 years ago, so I was riding around for about a month upon start in my H22 Crx with no Vtec, everyone thought it was working from driving it but it was decieving cuz it pulled hard with the large torque. I took it to BOTI with no vtec and wasn't happy with my times week later figured it out Vtec worked and I gained a full second with Vtec hooked up haha

Hey thanks for the info. The speedo is hooked up with the mechanical unit so that's not an issue...
A little update. I pulled the ECU fuse and let it reset itself. Drove the car around and I could actually hear VTEC engaging. Put about 50 k's on it and checked the codes again and the o2 code isn't showing anymore, just the knock and egr. So that's better.
Took Friday afternoon off work so I can head to the local drag strip.
Times soon to come :D
