Default K24 Monster

Hi. Newb here...

Just thought i would post up alittle and introduce myself.. I have a Blue 02 RSX-S.

I bought the car a year ago and had bought some things for it.

It had a DCRH, Injen CAI, Comptech Exhaust, Tein SSP Coilovers, Kpro, ACT Extreme clutch, Prostreet 8lb flywheel. The cars best run was a 13.63 at 102.3 http://videos.streetfire.net/s...a.htm

About 5 months ago the motor let go on me and completely blew apart. The block was worthless and the head would take lots of money to fix. soooooo...... I bought a K24 swap out of an element.

Here is what is going on.

The head......

After the car blew up i did my research on all the local shops and finally found one that i was REALLY impressed with. It is smith's Automotive in Frankfort. Ok and i liked the name. lol. But they sent the head off to get it fixed from the grenade that went off in it. and once they got it back they went to town on it. First i had the head ported which opened it up ALOT. more on the exhaust side then the intake. Also included on the head are Crower Titanium Retainers, Crower Dual Valve Springs, and Crower Flat top intake and Exhaust Valves. The keepers(retainer Clips) and Seals i just kept stock from honda. Im not sure as to what cams i am going to be running in it. I am still doing my research on that and figured id let the new motor break in on stock cams. The head is being placed on a cometic headgasket and held down with ARP studs.

Here are pic sof the head......

The Block......

Is in the process of still being built. It should be back next week. It is the block out of a Honda Element (k24a4) which unfortunately is the one block that does not just mount up to the k20 head. As far as the internals go on this i am sticking with stock TSX Rods and Pistons and the stock Crank. The crank is being knife edged and balanced. while all rod and piston combos will also be balanced to weigh the same. I went with ACL Rod and Main bearings and Stock Rings.

Pics soon to come.....

The rest of the build....

The car is being tuned with Hondata K-Pro and as far as who is tuning it i havent decided yet. I have been in touch with a shop in NY that has done this swap and they donated a map to the project to play around with so that i will have something to start with. I am in the middle of purchaseing new fuel injectors, rail, and pressure regulator. The other bolt ons that will be on the car is a Buddyclub Race Header followed by Comptech exhaust, Injen CAI, and a EP3 K20A NPR3 CTR Transmission w/ LSD with ACT extreme clutch and a Pro Street 8lb Flywheel. I also went ahead and replaced the motor mounts with Innovative's Race kit mounts. And the last thing so that i can monitor the motor was the A/F guage.

My Guage...

Buddyclub Race Header....

Tranny.....

And the final touch which my roomie got me...

because the block came out of an element.

Oh damn!!! Well it looks as if the K did what they're known for best and that's to lean way out on cylinder 3 and cause some serious issues. Good luck on the next motor, to try and keep myself from detonation I have to keep my motor running rich at around 12-12.5:1 A/F ratio.

Oh and for cams i'd definately run the Crower stage 2's or even run Skunk2 Stgage 2's, I'm running Skunks in mine and they're very responsive and streetable. Hit up Tai at CorSport and tell him I sent you his way, http://www.corsportusa.com

no i am going to be using the stock intake manifold. i had it port matched to the head and will be getting a throttle body for it here shortly.

the pic of the motor in the car isnt the build. that was just the k24 that i bought. i figured i would play around and put it in the car first to see how it turned out but i ran into a few small problems and just took it out to build it.

Man nothing pisses me off more than a shop telling me that i can come pick up my motor and then getting there to find out it isnt done. i freakin live an hour away from the shop. but i guess it is my fault for not calling first. But i did see it and all the work is done. it is just waiting to be assembled. They promised it to me tuesday so i guess i have to wait a few more days.

It just sucks because i had my hopes up on getting my car back since it has been down for 5 months. plus i took off of work for the next 4 days for putting it all together and hacing time to enjoy it.

Oh man, I hope you get it back soon... Let me know how it runs with all that headwork!

I did a straight k24a2 swap about a month back. Engine only had ~15k miles on it, runs great! Engine bay shot for the win!

Also a shot lowering the car onto the sexy new engine!

Sorry for threadjacking I'm just excited for you man. Yours is going to run so nice, you'll love it!

I don't know if I read right or not, but it looks as though you're using the k24's prb IM... Any plans to upgrade that? I'll be getting my RBC and bored TB back on Monday, I can let you know how it goes.

OH! AND VBP FTW!

Damn dude, I'd love to get the 70mm but it's like almost $300...

I'm just planning on paying the $100 to get it bored out to 65mm. Got the RBC and Karcept's adapter on their way this weekend or next week sometime hopefully
