Type-R tranny problem (2nd gear is fussy)
I bought a type-r tranny for my B20 vtec that had a new shift fork put in it, but all the gears, synchro's, and bearings are either new or in perfect condition. But for some reason 2nd gear is fighting me a little bit. It will hardly ever go in at all if you're down shifting and it fights a little bit to get in 2nd gear when accelerating, slow or fast, it doesn't matter. There's no grinds and it's only 2nd gear giving me a problem. What should I do, or what do you think might be causing this??? Thank you for your time.
I was using a b16 tranny before which is the same dimensions, and no it's not me, I'm not the best driver, but I'm deffinately not bad by any means, I think it's the style shift fork that we used. I'm going to try and use a 1997 type-r style 1-2 shift fork.
i know a guy that had the same problem, he could barely get it into 2nd.. he thought the shift fork was benta nd sold it for cheap..
If all the gears, selectors, and synchros are good..there should be no problem. Check to make sure that a washer was used under the detent bolts(the one that holds the ball and spring assemblies on the side of the main case). A lot of people forget that washer underneath the bolt and it will give them some shift issues to say the least!
