2002 Honda CRV - Thump below.
I just purchased a 2002 Honda CRV LX and it makes a thumping noise once in a while after I switch from reverse to drive, then accelerate. It will thump about 2-5 feet after acceleration, and it only happens sometimes, not always. Anybody know what this could be? Sometimes it's from the left side, and sometimes from the right. Please help.
Is it a thump or a higher pitched knock? I've seen that the front lower control arm bolts sometimes need to be retorqued. For some reason, they back off ever so slightly and the car will make a knocking noise.

it sounds as you describe it. so what do you mean by retorque? i have no idea what that means.
you sound like you know what the problem is though.

There are two 19mm hex bolts that hold the front lower control arms to the subframe on each side. I found that retorquing (i.e. re-tightening with a good impact gun) them fixed the problem. It's mainly the rear bolt, but do them all just in case and see what happens.
