Well the place I ordered my 2ct's from asked what size tires I wanted. I told him the sizes that were already on the bike (04 gsxr600) with a 180/55/17 rear. My buddy picked them up since I was on vacation. They gave him the wrong tires and called him up and he had to go back and exchange them (mind you its a 45min drive each way). Well I look at them today when he dropped them off and I believe the front is the same, but the rear is a 190/50/17 and not the 180/55/17 that I ordered. Is there a big difference between the two? Should I call and bitch and get the tire I paid for, or will I really not notice a difference?

I have never compared the 2 tires side by side but every review i have ever read said that the 190 gives the bike honorable turning and more weight. ive herd of people switching the 190 their bike came to a 180.
as a side note, NOTE the words "herd and read"

the 190 isn't horrible. Yes it'll hurt your turn in but weight wise - you won't notice. Thing is a 600 just doesn't need a 190 rear. Plus this is all not to mention the fact that the 190 is gonna be a lil big for your wheel. A 190 on a liter bike is necessary cause it gives a larger contact pad which is needed for the larger hp that the bikes put down. Street tire wise 190/50 isn't bad on my bike. I'm looking at maybe running 190/55 supercorsas next time I buy rubber
i really doubt many people would switch from a 190 to a 180...the wider tire gives more traction and usually the bikes with the 190 are liter bikes...

Alrighty, Ill be calling them tomorrow. And I already know what they are going to say. With the recall and the time it took them to get them in I would have been better off ordering online.
The front is a 120/70/17 which appears to be the one thats on the bike, at least they did this right.
Sorry im going to rant here, but it pisses me off. It was a "special order" part that took 5 days to get in, then the recall where they sent those back and got new ones. So about 7-8 days to get in. And they messed up once, now again. I mean comon here is it really that hard? I failed inspection 2 days before my 10day window ran out because of a chain guard and the tires. Now if I get pulled over with no inspection im pretty screwed because I know its going to take another damn week to get the right rear in.
And this is my only transportation until I finish painting the eg.

I went from a 180/55 to a 190/50 on my RC51 and thought it was just fine after some suspension adjusting. Either can be made to work.
But... on a 600, no need for the 190 rear IMO.

i did....a lot of guys on fireblades.org do too. Most of them do it for the track/canyons. I couldnt be happier. Turn in is definately noticeably better and ive never once lost traction.
only problem is the bike doesnt wheelie quite as nicely.
to the op dont put a 190 on your 600

just a counterpoint: alot of the guys racing 600's at WSMC are running a 190/50 rear. i think the most important thing about running a 190 on a bike that's usually shod w/ 180 is the geometry/profile/aspect ratio differences.
but, after some suspension tweaking, the 190 can be just as effective as a 180 or more so, in the right application.
the 64,000 dollar question is: will YOU need a 190 rear? probably not. and changing your setup to work with the 190 rear is probably more work than you need to do. a 180/55 2ct should be readily available from 10000 different places so make the shop get it right.

The point of the 190 is to set up for a point and shoot style of riding. Stand up and get on the gas hard and early. It won't carry as much cornerspeed as an identically equipped bike no matter what you adjust.

yeah i'm sure there are sacrifices, but i'd sacrifice grip for turn in, if given the choice.

Then raise your rear ride height and/or drop your front. Get tires with a more triangular profile, give yourself more leverage on the bars or fix your body position... heck, you could even learn to go in on the brakes because when you do the geometry of the bike is more agressive. I don't see any point in fitting a 190 to a 600 at all. Not trying to call you out, I just see the trade off as non-existant. There's pretty much no reason to run 190.

yeah in my own vague way i was just agreeing with you in my previous post. i wouldn't feel compelled to run a 190 for any reason, for the time being. i would rather have the sharper turn in from the 180 than more grip from the 190.
now that i've picked a tire, i do need to get the suspension sorted proper--once the new rear shock gets here and i mount the new tires...i'm pretty excited about it actually.

yeah I'm going to. I just don't wanna give up my pilot powers to do so. heh

Any 190 on a 600 is horrible. IMO, I hate 190's even on large bikes but if it has to be a 190 at least be a 190/55 so you can keep the geometry of the tire the same as a 180.
