A dust mask is probably not a bad idea either. I've never tried blasting like this, but I'd imagine that the money spent on the equipment, blasting media, and the time spent on prep and cleanup it might end up cheaper to get it done unless you're doing a lot of this work.
Where do you do the blasting, and how do you contain the sand for cleanup?
