Cooling Fan Questions! Please Explain/Help!
Long time no see, anyway I drive an 88 Civic DX and I have a couple questions about my cooling fans. First, is the main radiator cooling fan, when I first got the car it would kick on at a certain temperature cooling the engine down, now when I turn my car on it runs 100% of the time, one motor burned out already how do I stop this from happening!!? Next is the exhaust manifold cooling fan, it just died completely! is there a fuse or wire that is prone to cause this or what!? yeah, I'm new to hondas and **** so let me know please!!!
are you using the ac all the time? when the ac is on both fans come on. If not your fan switch might have gotten stuck. Try a new one. or the wires to it grounded out so its on all the time. take a look
Just so you know the 2nd fan is not for the exhaust manifold, it is for the a/c. Turn on the a/c and check for voltage at the wires or jump the fan right to your battery and see if it comes on.

Hell yeah I'm a check it first thing in the morning! I don't have or run ac at all, I'm a check the wires, fan switch, bleed the system, everything!!! appreciate it!!!!
Oh yeah, where is the fan switch located!? I take it the fan switch is the sensor that tells the fan when to come on? could the thermostat be messed up too?
Fan switch is a 2 prong connector on the backside of the block near the oil filter. When the switch goes bad the fan will ALWAYS run regardless of engine temp or if the A/C is on. hth
I must have a bad temperature sensor. When I disconnect it with the engine cold it shuts off and connect it while its still cold it comes right back on. I bled the coolant, checked all fuses, unplugged and replugged everything, reset the ecu, and checked the oil level for the hell of it, and I guess it's the sensor let me know!!

yeah?
I'm going to get a fan switch and a new thermostat, should I go with 170, 180, or 195 temp? it's pretty much a stock engine but I floor it constantly what would keep the temps down!?

I got the thermostat it's a 180, like I said I'm constantly abusing the engine, I haven't put it on yet but I'm trying to get the car to run as cool as possible at full throttle and high rpms, and I'm getting the fan switch tomrow, I'm going to install everything on friday, with fresh fluid and new oil. anyway what thermostat would work best in my application it's south georgia and outside temps are consistently above 85f. please help!
