Default A/C line wont fit new drier?!?

Hi, I am 95% done with removing, flushing, and/or replacing most of the A/C parts in my 93 Del Sol. I replaced the compressor, and all the o-rings also.

I did NOT change the lines (flushed), tho, the compressor line was converted to 134a previously.

Everything else fits fine, but...

The old dryer line (part #11 below) WON'T FIT ON MY NEW (O'reillys) DRIER!?!?!

It just barely won't go down in the hole in order to get the all important seal, so I can pull a vacuum. Its like it was machined just a hair short of spec or something. The gap all the way around is about a credit cards width all the way around, and the square block at the end of the line wont sit flush!

I checked to see if it might be another year hose, but no, all 93-97s use the same drier, so thats not it. I also checked it agenst 2 other new driers and both did the same. Also, the seat on the hose is not scuffed, or distorted, or out of round etc, it just seems a hair 'too big' (but it came out of a WORKING SYSTEM!!)

Has anyone else run into this before?
Am I going to have to get an OEM Drier?
What else should I try, I'm NOT going to sand, or hammer

Thanks for any help, I sure would like to get this done tonight or tomorrow, but if I must, I can wait till mon.

hey, i know what your problem is, there are 3 driers for your car. Im guessing you might have an old system and its r12 system. You need a drier off a 92 civic. Its more expensive too. IF not try a 94 civic and see if that one works.

O'reilly does carry all 3 of them also, might just have to order them depending on how big of the store is.

Hmmm, thx. I may have to ask for a '92.

I asked, and he said the one he gave me was 93-97 Del Sol/Civic (same part number)

...

Ok, I just checked, and they ARE different on Hondas pages. Your exactly right about the 3 different types, and the prices.

92 (possably earlier) to 93 has two types, r12 and r134.

Then the price drops, and 94-97 Del Sols are one type, but with a DIFFERENT part number from the elder models.

So, O'reillys is giving out 94-97 parts when you ask for a 93 part.

Spiffy. I thought they were the most on the ball around here. Guess I'll have to go to Napa from now on, even tho its about 5 miles farther. And I refuse to patron AutoZone anymore, or at least the one thats half a block from my house. Those idiots would rather complain about customers in front of other customers, or talk on the phone to their boyfriend/girlfriends. Also, the manager there is senile. I asked him if he rented a vacuum pump for after I flushed out the system, and he said, "No, I don't think you can pull a vacuum enough to suck all that GUNK outta there."

WHATWHATWHAT??

THEN he pointed me to a HAND VACUUM PUMP, AFTER I told him it looked like an AIR COMPRESSOR!!!

Anyway, thanks man! Looks like I gonna go to the big H on monday!
