WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH MY CAR?
I have a 1990 CRX Si and it suddenly just died...so my car began to slow down since it's a standard. Turned on after for about 1 minute and hasn't turned on since... I have already:
Checked for Spark
checked Spark Plugs
corrected Timing
checked Fuel Pump
checked Fuel Filter
replaced Main Relay (Under Left Side Dash)
replaced EGR Vacuum Solenoid
My car just had the head gasket replaced and head was resurfaced.
Right now my car cranks and tries to turn on but can't start. The only thing I think it may be is the ECU...what do you guys think? Please help...My car has been down for about a month already!

i know this sounds like a stupid error but my car did the same thing and it ended up being the screw in the dizzy that holds the rotor on. The screw wiggled its way out and the dizzy wasnt sparking the right cylinders when it needed to.
I say check the rotor inside the dizzy cap. Make sure its on there tight and the set screw has not fallen out.
It may sound strang but i've seen it happen many times... So thats what i say. Check it out and let me know what you find!
Thanks!

Damn IANDAVIS, looks like great minds think alike... Were you reading my mind??? I was typing my answer at the exact same time you were and you just barely beat me posting it. LOL... pretty funny!

x2 to this.
just because the fuel pump is on doesnt mean the ecu is sending injector pulse.
also check the dizzy out.

dang EFHATCHMAN that is insane. I was just putting down what came to mind but it is crazy that we were both doing it at the same time.
I've had the rotor screw fall off. it feels like the timing belt broke when it happens..
ive also had the coil contact in the cap break off or fall out, the ignitor power wire come loose of the ignitor. the ground for the wiring harness on the thermostat housing be too coroded to make a connection, the ignitor go out, the coil go part way out so the spark is tiny, the pickups in the distributor (cam sensor, crank sensor, tdc sensor)go out. a keyway on the cam gear shear off so it looks like the cam is turning but it isn't. i've been doing this for 15 years though this was on several hundred hondas and ive never seen a honda ECU go out enough to not start a car.

I have already had the injectors clean and they are fine...so my guess would be the rotor...I remember replacing the rotor when I bought the car (like 4 months ago) and the set screw broke but I had a friend tap it out and just used another screw of the same gerth and thread. Hopefully that's all that's wrong with it...I will go and check this again and let you guys know what I find. I really appreciate all your help.
Ok so check this out...while I was looking for an ECU I called a local Honda dealer to see if the price was outrageous and it just over a $1000.00 so forget that! Anyway, I noticed the guy at the Dealer said he only found PM6 ECU's for my year model and car...right now the car has a PM5....whats the difference between these 2? Does anyone know?

if you havnt seen them squirt fuel don't assume.
also dont buy a new oem ecu, try to find someone locally to lend you one or buy a used one if you really suspect it.
save a ton of money that way.
but a cap and rotor would probably be a good start.

Does anyone know which ECU is the one for my 1990 Si ? Manual Transmission. I think the guy at the Honda Dealership said there were 2 different ones.
PM5 : 88-91 Civic/CRX DX
PM6 : 88-91 Civic/CRX SOHC Si
PM7 : 89-91 DOHC ZC (JDM 'EF' ECU)
PM8 : 88-91 CRX HF
PR2 : 89-91 ZC (Euro)
PR3 : 89-91 JDM B16A EF8/9
found this in the faq

unless the ECU is throwing a code 20 or whatever it isnt that..
check the codes.
the ecu should just blink once when u turn the key on.

Ok so I got the cap off and found out the Rotor didn't have the set screw. Thanks a lot you guys....my car runs fine...and I also bought a PM6 ECU for 50 bucks. Much better now.
