Regarding the a/c, I'm just not getting any cold air. Ever. My understanding is I am most likely in need of a refrigerant recharge.

The car tends to overhear when I am idling for long periods of time. It only becomes an issue when the weather is hot (80+ degrees). I've read this could possibly be an electric cooling fan issue. Not really sure though.

Any advice?

 

You might need a recharge, but make sure to get a refrigerant that has a dye in it, if it leaked out, its gonna do it again, might as well figure out why it doesn't have any refrigerant in it...

The cooling fan has two circuits, and they go through the fan relay in the fuse box. Three options here, either the fan switch in the head is disconnected/bad, the relay is bad, or the fan itself is bad.

and if you recharge your A/C yourself, DO NOT get R134A with <u>sealant</u>. (you have to read the label carefully to make sure you're getting pure 134A) If you put sealant in your system, you will not be able to get your system serviced again. (the sealant **** up the A/C machines which are probably worth more than your car.)

 

It could be possible that you have a leak in the A/C system as well. Check all the lines and see if you can find a possible leak... And for the over heating, check the coolant level. It could be possible that your radiator is bad, or leaking. Also, your tstat could be getting old and needing replacement. As my Tstat got older, it needed replacement just because it wouldnt open up as quickly as it used to, this would cause no coolant circulation and allowing the cars tempature to rise geater than it should.

Check these things out and hopefully you'll find your porblems.

 

Well yeah R134 w/ sealant is a NO-NO. There is a UV R134 can you can fill the system with to find the leak.

As for overheating, the fact that it only happens on hot days is almost probably directly related to a faulty electric fan. Because when you are driving the constant airflow going thru the radiator is keeping the car cool. Try grabbing either a multimeter of test light and testing if the fan has voltage going to it. If the fan doesn't spin with voltage going to it, the fan is faulty. If the fan isn't getting any voltage, check your fuses and relays. if the fuses and relays still are good, wire a direct 12v ignition-tapped wire to the fan. That way whenever the car is on, so will the fan. Hope this helps.

 

check if the fans turn on... if they dont... check the relay bridge it using a paper clip.... if they work your ect sensor is fucked up you need to replace it

 

After the car has been running for a while, the fan should come on when the car is idleing. You will be able to hear it, but to make sure just pop the hood and see. Make sure your looking at the fadiator fan though, not the air conditioning fan.

^^ It should come on in around 10 minutes. If you have some wire laying around you can run it from the +/- on your batter to the +/- on your fan connector and see if that jumps the fan. If the fan works then it could be your thermoswitch. If you want to start small you can always burp the system by starting the car with the rad cap off and allow it to run like that for a few minutes. You should see the coolant bubble a bit.

 

i have a similar problem and i cant figure out what the hell is wrong lol.

my radiator fan doesnt turn on but works because i ran it direct and i bypassed the relay.

changed the thermo switch and nothing. switched the relay and nothing. i have no power going to the thermo switch. any suggestions?

 

my next thing is checking the pcu..
oh yeah my ac doesnt work or my ac fan doesnt work as well. it all happened the same day my radiator fan stopped working. or my defrosters dont work either :/ help!

 

Sounds like a blown fuse. What year Civic? Fuse 17 for 96-00 Civics.

 

i checked all the fuses. theyre all good. somewhere between the thermo switch wire isnt getting power.. my buddy told me it might be something on the pcu?? power unit control..

its a 00 civic hatch.

 

Click the Fuses link in my signature. With the key in ON(II), you need to test the installed fuse for voltage at BOTH top test tabs.

Does 7.5A fuse 16 have voltage?

Does the blower behind the glove box work?
