i have a 99 ej8 and i think the speakers that go in the rear are 6x9. So i got some free 6x9 kenwoods and i dont know where to start. How does one take the rear cover?? Does anybody have a diagram or a link how to do this?? or some good instructions would be nice. thanks audio gurus!!!!!!!
It's a bit of a pain, start by removing the rear seat, [bottom and back(s)] then remove drivers side, [rear] trim panel, yes the whole thing, that will allow you to pop up, [unclip] the rear deck trim.

I think you answered your own question. Broken clips mean do it right.

I got one of my rear covers out but it's kinda hard to get the one or two of the speaker screws. It's ALOT simpler to just remove the seats, side panels and then the rear cover. The only thing you need to make sure of tho is replacing the push clips on the rear cover otherwise you'll get a rattle monster....

yes...yes it is.
for the coupe...start by removing the rear seat-cushion. it has a 10mm bolt that goes into the floor but it is unseen. take a look at your rear seats and their seat belts. stick your hand in the crack between the seat cusion and the seat back (where the seat belt clips come out of) and run your hand towards the drivers side of the car. you should feel the head of a 10mm bolt slightly closer to the drivers side of the car...get a 10mm socket on a ratchet extension and pull the 10mm bolt out. from there you should be able to pull the rear edge (back of the car) of the seat-cushion up and outwards...this is a little bit of a pain sometimes...just take your time and it'll wiggle out. next thing you'd have to do is to pull the 10mm bolts from the bottom corners of the seat-backs after you fold them down. there should be 2 brass looking 10mm bolts at both corners of both seat-backs. remove all 8 bolts and you can take the trunkliner out with the seat-backs. next you'll have to remove the 12mm bolts that hold in the rear seat hinges on both sides...make sure to pay attention to the way that the little washers and gasket thingys go in which order over the bolt and through the seat hinge. from there... you should be able to access the plastic screws that are slightly imbedded in the lower portion of the rear inner quarterpanel. these screws are normally hidden but after you pull out the rear seats...should be easy to locate. the screws themselves screw into a plastic clip that pushes through the rear panel and into a metal sub-bracket for fastening of the lower half of the large panel. next...you should be able to pop off the rear quarterpanel itself carefully around it's edges...starting where the quarterpanel itself meets the rear deck and work your way towards the front of the car. local parts stores have panel popper tools that work way better than a flathead screwdriver cuz the flathead concentrates the pressure to a very tiny area...the popper tools spread that pressure over a wider area lessening the chance of breaking hidden clips or clip-holders or the quarterpanel itself that lead to rattles
. lastly you should be able to pop the rear deck upwards and out of it's home. it seems like a lot but it's really not. me personally i can do a rear speaker drop in about a half-hour start to finish. i just like to explain as much in detail as i can with my explanations.
install in reverse taking your time to line up all the clips and pop them back into place. if the panel doesn't go back in right, again, you might break clips or clip-holders
i can provide pics as well but it's a bit of a pain for me. all i have is a camera phone (1.3 Mega Pixels) and i have to send them to my e-mail then transfer to photobucket then transfer to here. just lemme know if you get lost or run into a problem...i'll help as much as i can.
